+1 on Sedona...and nearby Jarrell as well. Good burgers at the Haunted Hamburger in Jarrell. Jarrell is supposedly a "haunted" community, if you believe that sort of thing.

You must ride 89A down from Flagstaff to Sedona. "Tail of the Gila Monster"

Just got back yesterday and it was a great ride! Hit up Sedona - awesome, Grand Canyon north and south rims but the award goes to Utah and Zion Park best ride ever.

A few things came up I have to decide on what to do about. Having to keep looking down at my speedo over and over SUCKS. Not looking and going 90mph past a state trooper really sucks - lucked out he didn't pull me over.

Only a couple other issues came up -
blew the fuse to my headlamps - couldn't find a short so I just stuck a 30 amp in there

The gasket on my gas cap decided to give out and poured fuel all over me and everything else anyone run an aftermarket cap and pumpless with an HSR42?

I got a horrible clank in the front end when hitting hard bumps on some really bad sections of route 66

My MPG SUCKS!! I never filled up so many times in my life. didn't know where the next gas station would be so if I was 1/2 tank and I saw a station I filled up. I was in the middle of nowhere, hit my reserve at 125miles and was freaking out luckily found a station with extremely high prices to fill up ($5.89 a gal)

Pretty sure I need new steering/handlebar bearings got some crappy wheel wooble a couple times when riding one handed. I checked the torque and it was to spec before the trip...

I LOVE my new hard bags.

I really liked the "legs" I got on the freeway with my 33T pulley but hated the shifting for hills at lower than 60mph kinda missed the 31T. I might go back to the stock 32T....you know what they say Stock is best....

All in all if was an awesome trip....just don't know if I want to do the next one on my R* The Victory cross country is looking pretty sweet after this trip.

Getting comfortable at 85 and 90, and hitting reserve at about 125 miles, isn't necessarily crappy mileage. I'd say it's more to be expected. If you were running 70, you may want to change some things. I'm no help with the HSR, as far as mileage.
I can only assume you were stomping the fuel in the tank, because of wanting to put as much in as possible, and got bit by what happens when ground temp fuel comes close to doubling its temperature, in a very short time.

I was at Zion years ago as a kid. It is a gorgeous place.

Yep, running higher speeds puts the fuel economy in the pooper. It's normal. Carbed or FI; it's the same thing. Pushing wind takes a lot of calories

Glad to hear you had a safe and great trip.
AZ and UT are my favorite riding places so far. The scenery, roads, and warm weather all come together to make a memoriable experience.
Curious, where were you in the middle of nowhere when you switched to reserve and where'd you fill up, do you remember?

Glad you had a great trip, been there many times. I've backpacked in the GC a number of times too. You should see what it looks like from the bottom!

MPG is a reflection of speed. You worried about fuel with a stock tank? You should try riding with my 2.5 gallon tank! I sweat bullets at 100 miles....no reserve either...when it stumbles its done!

smhowse, did you travel route 66 from Barstow to Needles? If so how was the road? Would you recommend not riding it? How far between gas? I have plans to ride that area in a couple of weeks, to know as much as I can. Thanks for any information you can give me.
