I just bought 4 sq/ft (12"X48" of 8/9 oz. finished leather. It was $58 shipped off ebay. It's about 1/8" thick and cut my own. I ended up needing tin snips to cut it. I got enough to do 2 incase I botched to first one... I found a pattern here in a thread. http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/id,807082/catid,51/limit,10/limitstart,10/
I'll have to take some pics yet, but I thought they worked well. Tried them out on a run up to Moonshine for a burger last weekend.

When I had Speedstar drag pipes on mine I had the same issue with the rear pipe kissing my inner thigh so I used one of the heat shields from my stock pipes and modified it so that I could install it on the Speedstar pipes in that spot and it worked well. You can also buy generic heat shields on ebay for under $10 that will install in that spot.
