Clutch SPRING????? 4 Years, 9 Months ago
Hey guys, question here. I have a R* 1700 ITS A 2006 and I am looking for a clutch spring because my clutch is starting to slip in 4th and 5th when I get on it. My problem is when I search for this it pulls up two different parts, some funky disk looking thing OR a actual coiled spring. So im not sure what my bike needs since I haven't taken it apart.

Please help thanks.

One is a diaphragm spring like the OEM spring and the other is a Barnett spring. The Barnett is the one you want even though it looks different. It is the best replacement out there.

that's what many of us have gone to. So tight the first ride I down shifted and almost broke my nose on the windscreen

It works great!

+1 on the Barnett spring conversion. Best thing you can do. Recommend reusing the stock plates as well

Word of warning about the Barnett clutch spring. That clutch spring is the strongest clutch spring you can get for the Roadstar. But remember this, if you hammer your bike hard through the gears, the Roadstar motor has enough torque to do transmission damage!! A friend of mine used to do 1/4 mile racing with Orient Express using Roadstars when they first came out. He grenaded several transmissions before heavy engine modifications!! I am only going on his word, but he had no agenda and no reason to BS me. Since he actually did blow out 2nd gear more then once with the Barnett clutch that was good enough for me!!

My 2002 Roadstar started to slip a little bit around 30K and I was going to get the Barnett clutch spring. He talked me out of that. I ended up getting the Yamaha heavy duty spring instead. I have 78K miles now and the clutch still works fine.

So main point being if you ride your bike hard from time to time, as in shifting and hammering thru the gears, you may want to think twice. If you do not do that to your bike then you will probably never have a problem!!
