Rear shock 3 Years, 11 Months ago
I have a 06 1700 has been lowered previous to me buying it so I'm not sure what they've used I think it's Barron's. The problem is the suspension on the rear end is really loose and I'm wanting to get possibly a little more height out of the bike and stiffen up the suspension. I have already tightened up the spring as much as it would go. I'm thinking I may need to buy an aftermarket shock but I'm open to suggestions so if anyone has experience in this please let me know your ideas. Any suggestions on an aftermarket shock would be helpful.

Road Wing. Search it here or google it. It's a Gold Wing 1800 shock modified to fit the Road Star. Smokescreens makes them up. Let the info flow.

+ 1 on the Roadwing. I ditched a brand new rear shock assembly for one and it's a marked improvement

What do you think about buying a better spring? I think smokescreens shock may be more than what I'm needing I usually only ride one up and don't have saddle bags I'm about 175 on a dry day. Anyone hade any luck with a aftermarket spring?

The spring is not the problem, it's the poor stock shock. Search this forum for tons of threads about the most excellent virtues of the Roadwing.

Also check the Tech Articles about the cracked shock mount problem. Two things this bike needs is better seats and better shocks.

If your going to go through the exercise of taking the shock off and putting it back on (I didn't have fun!! ), I would go with a whole new unit provided you have the funds, Roadwing or Progressive 465.
