Wow, That's insane. Could you imagine where most of us would be right now without the clinic? Mostly stock bikes and less money in our pockets. Thanks RSC.
+2 on that one..

Hey there
I was only in there once but was happy with the service. The previous owner of my Roadie swore by them for everything. It's called Cycle Master in Ashton, Ontario. The owners are Jon and Sue Barnes. They seem to have done a good job on mine as I haven't had any issues since buying it 4 or 5 years ago and it had the ported and polished heads, high compression cylinders and a few other things done to it. They were the shop that did all that work.
Marc.
Thanks for the heads up. If ever I need specialty help again in the future I'll give them a shot. From now on I will be asking for a quote on everything. I'm still fuming!!!

Actually going over the bill line by line, they're not really that far off considering you had them doing several jobs that aren't related to each other including one that's something dealers are technically not supposed to do (disabling smog equipment). 5-1/2 hours for the list of work they did doesn't really sound so far out of line. Dealership techs (of any brand or vehicle type) are not normally expected to be knowledgeable or proficient at disabling safety or smog equipment. On that point charging you the time they took to learn how to do it correctly actually is expected to be billable time.
The part that does stand out to me are the spark plugs. I know there's an exchange rate but they still only retail at US dealers for $2.60 each. That turns your $10.40 in plugs (at retail) into nearly $40 and the exchange rate was not 400% last time I looked it up.
It looks like you also have a pretty stiff tax rate up there and that's not the dealer's fault.
This is just a good reason to do as much as possible yourself and do plenty of reading here before dropping your bike off anywhere that has a published billing rate that's about 5 to 10 times what a lot of people make per hour.

The place out here in Alberta I had the following done:
- oil change
- inspection (1000mi tune up essentially as it was never done)
- Tune up (fuel filter, plugs, etc)
- Carb cleaned out (it was BAD and they used some kind of iso something machine on it))
- belt check
- Steering head check
- Cables adjusted and lubed
- etc
And it was $630ish as well. Remember Canadian dollars my USA friends. Think the shop is 90 bucks or 100 bucks an hour.
I don't think they are out of line but I bet they told you 350 bucks as an estimate...no?
Save money, learn to wrench. I was in a rush and a week before a trip so I did not have the time.
