Roadstar down!!! 6 Months ago
|
|
Yesterday as I was getting ready to go for a ride I ran back into the garage after putting the bike down on the kickstand and stupidly left the wheel's straight and she rolled forward and the kickstand went up and she went down. Luckily my leather bags and blinker took the Brunt of the damage. The main question I have is my handlebars seemed to be twisted at one of the goosnecks. When I saw it and tried to twist them back and it seemed like they popped it back into place. Is it as simple as that?

As long as everything is tight in the riser and no cracks in the bar you should be OK. It sounds like you got lucky.

The topic scared me. The risers are mounted on isolators on the top tree. I would check those by loosening the risers underneath then taking the caps off the risers. Then re-torque everything to spec. Don't let the handlebars drop on the tank when you loosen the second cap. Tighten the caps with the forward bolt first then the rearward bolt. At proper torque there will be a small gap under the after end of the cap. You will also get some other opinions I hope.

I think he means the riser.
Gooseneck to most in motorcycle world is a frame neck extended in a particular way.

lol... When it comes to bicycles the goosneck is what holds the handlebars. Well, some people call it that anyways. When I take it apart what exactly should I be looking for? Just make sure nothing is bent? Only reason it was there is I forgot something in the garage. Damn thing was running too. Other than the signal and handlebars I have a small scuff on my roadstar tank emblem. It totally happened in slow motion. I remember there being some play in the riser if you push the handlebars back and forth or is it not supposed to be that way.
Thanks,
Mike

Remove the risers and handlebars, inspect them for damage or bends, spray silicone on the rubber bushings in the upper triple tree, put anti seize lube on the riser threads, put it all back together and ride it.

Do you have OEM risers on it or aftermarket? Some of the cheaper aftermarket risers from ebay don't tighten down on the bars as they should. I have had to drill and pin a couple sets to keep the bars from twisting downwards over time.
