05 rs less than 300 miles 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Bought the bike yesterday has been siting for 7 years getting ready for the normal fuel system cleaning will be doing full tune up. Anyone know how much oil shows on dip stick that is cold and not been running for a while? I will be changing oil after the 1st start up just like getting the bike warm to get all old oil out and don't want to hurt the motor.

You wont get a correct or regular reading when its cold. Just run it for a few moments and drain it. Use cheap m/c oil and run it for a ride and drain it again and fill with the good stuff.

This is but one mans opinion and what i would do. But im sure a simple oil change is just as well.

What Smokes said, kinda. Run it long enough to get it warm so it drains well. I think I'd get some 10-40 oil from Yamaha, since it's still not broke in. 4 qts is all you'll need with an oil and filter change. Dump 2 in the fill tube. Start the bike and let it run about 15 seconds or so. Turn the bike off, and dump the last two quarts in. Make sure and screw the dipstick in, after the first 2 quarts, before you start it.
Run the yamalube for the first 1000 to 1500 miles, and then you can go to one of the synthetics if you want. I think I'd try and follow a manual re the break in period etc..

The dipstick as a reference works well if you follow the proper procedure, but the bike has to be warmed up well, given a chance for the oil to settle down after the bike is turned off, and then checked while the bike is held upright, not leaning on the stand.

Good find, if it was in a decent storage, and isn't trashed.

My 2cents: with a motor that has sat that long I would pull the plugs, put a couple of shots of Marvel Mystery oil in each cylinder and let it sit for a few minutes. Before reinstalling the plugs turn the motor over a few times to get an oil film on the cylinder walls.
I would also change the oil before running using 10-40 and add some MMO. Run it for a couple hundred miles then change oil and filter to whatever you plan on using long term.

Just curious - is that the California bike that had $700 some odd dollars of back DMV fees?

I'd add about 1/2 can of Seafoam or MMO to the crankcase & loosen up the gunk that probably formed over 7 years of sitting cold.
300 miles isn't even broken in so it's probably the original oil, complete with the Cosmolene added for protection during initial factory transport & storage.
Cosmolene is a waxy compound & it can harden over years of sitting.

Like others said, start it, let it run to bring up to temp & dump including the filter.
I wouldn't worry about the transfer case but definitely get rid of the engine oil after it's warmed up.

Depending where & how it was stored you might be chasing a lot of rubber parts (like fork seals) drying out for a while.
Make sure you lube the clutch cable really well as well as the shifter & lever pivot points, I bet they're all bone dry by now.

Neck bearings, swingarm bearings, wheel bearings, etc should all be looked at too ...

Absolutely! It seems tires older than 6 years feel 'greasy' and your confidence leaning in the corners falls away!!!
