All have seen the TECH post on how to install the Barnett clutch kit and have a few questions.

Has anyone installed this, how long ago and how has it held up?

What are the advantages of going with the Barnett clutch over the stock clutch?

Where can i purchase the Barnett clutch?

Lastly does anyone know if there is a COMPLETE tech manual for my 2004 1700 out there anywhere? On the web or where can i purchase one? have looked around town and ahve been unable to get my hands on one.

Don.

The Barnette replacement clutch is a good quality unit for sure but there's another alt mfg'd by Yamaha for thier hi perf Speedstar line of parts for the R* thats cheaper and a bit easier to install then the Barnett clutch which is pasted below.

Some guys here in RSC have used this hi perf yami preplacement clutch spring with good results too.

I pasted the links & item #s on ebay to the Yami & Barnette repl clutch spring/pressure plate below for you to chk out.

BTW,for some reason the links for ebay dont always work when cut & pasted into RSC so thats why i also inc item # in case links are dead.

I have the plate kit from Barnett that I'd be willing to sell. Planned on installing it when I replaced the spring kit, but found the stock plates were fine. I'll let it go for much cheaper than you can buy one online. Gimme a shout if you want it.

I have the complete service manual 1998-2006 with the supplement for the '04 to '06. I can email them to you. Big files, about 57 MB for both.

And the part # for the clutch cover gasket is 5VN-15451-00. No matter which one you choose you'll need the gasket.

Did you ever sell this? If not, I'd be interested.

Sorry for what may be a stupid question, but is this all there is to the "kit"? http://www.powersportsuperstore.com/Barnett-Clutch-Spring-Conversion-Kit-511-90-10002-p/4143453.htm If so, is that all I need? I know the plates are good, but the clutch is slipping badly again. I say again because I replaced the "dinner plate" spring with another just like it. It was ok for awhile but now it's right back where it was before the fix. I can't stand it anymore....

Just curious how a clutch could ever affect the speedometer??? I'm sure Scott that you just copy and pasted from the website, but that doesn't make any sense to me at all....

I did the Barnett clutch. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but have little mechanical experience, none on cycles. It was realitively easy.
Before my clutch slipped fairly bad especially in higher gears, and pulling the clutch lever in I had a hard time "rolling" the bike. Now a new spring and adjust the cable and its great.

Word of caution: I did not refill the oil correctly and spilled, cheap lesson learned.

So this is the ol' "If I can do it, anyone can" post

My clutch is slipping bad in all gears. How do I tell if I need to replace the plates after getting to the clutch? Can I assume that I probably just need to replace the spring, as most of you found that was all you needed?

I'll say this, I sell lots of the Barnett SR-2 springs & VERY few friction plates.
