If you peeked behind the curtain you wouldn't think so. Like in the Wizard of Oz there's lots of wheels and stuff we fiddle with to keep things going. I like it when I'm in charge of the big fire making machine!

Understood and appreciated....only trying to avoid complicating simplicity

damn good idea. I'd be in.

As an auditor, I'm thinking it may be a good idea ( in a locked members only forum post or something) do semi-annually provide a quick and dirty collections and distributions financial sheet, then we can see how we help each other

would access to the cash be by request or nomination to the committee?

This just a suggestion but why don't we have the Moderators take care of how much we actually donate and where it goes with a members only vote send some help to fulfill our members needs...this is going to take some faith on our part but with the caliber of our members I've seen more then actualized trust then faith...Kai ( we need a moderator to actually step up for the job!!! )

P.s. I have discontinued my paypal account but I can send actual payments to a physical address with my online banking...

We already ahve a Members only section in the forum. We just have to convince Our Leader that we need a "Helping Hand: section added to it...

I wouldn't use Paypal for something like this. They are the devil incarnate. They can freeze fund for any reason they see fit. ANY REASON. Personally, I'd put it in a CU or bank that has a good online banking program. That way, you could always cut a check to a MIN (Member in Need) using the bill payment functionality.

Aside from that, it sounds like a good idea on the surface, but I would be worried over what constitutes a "worthy" issue. Do only paying members get to partake? If this is done, I'd recommend only issues that are brought up by whatever council is formed are taken under review. If you leave it up to member submitted issues, you're bound to hurt someone who thinks they are more deserving than X member. I would also suggest that only ACTIVE members that have been here for a predetermined amount of time are eligible. A year and X number of posts? Before the fund gets formed.

I'm in though... an dammit someone send me a bell all ready, or I'll be the first one that partakes in the fund!

Good thought, However, I was thinking more in the line of members of the forum that aren't already active "within the infrastructure" of the forum....the moderators already have their hands full apparently...and, how many of us actually voted for the present moderators? Really, how were they appointed? Just curious

Again, all good things that need to be tossed around...as far as "worthy issues"...once again, A nice spray of flowers and a card from the gang at the forum to a downed member, hospitalized or not, first and foremost.... after that...we can all make suggestions and narrow it down to importance and need, in that order, there is a hundred places we can put the funds..."given as a gift" non taxable....3 and no more than 4 members voted as a "Panel" and in panel for 2 years or until their Obamanized or they just plain wanna quit....the who gets what will be decided upon by "a majority decision" by the panel, not the members, no questions asked....bare in mind....10% of all funds recieved go to the "Jonamaha Sheep Bar and Grill" right off the top

I would think that requests made would be done privately to the "Panel" and decided on from there....depending on funds portionized as to accomidate more than one request so as not to deplete the fund acct.....more than likely a percentage would go to decided upon requests...actually, it's a lot less complicated than it sounds....I mean, if Darn got ringworm from Greyphartes hampsters and requested help, I'm sure we could spring for an "E" get well card

one little caveat...

I am a forum newbie, but please allow me to play devils advocate here

Someone winds up being responsible to administer a program like this. Ive been on the receiving end of many suggestions when I was a "somebody" in a different hobby.

If we are wanting to go forward with this(I think it is a great idea) should we ask ourselves whether or not we are willing to be responsible for the handling the task and not ask the forum moderators?

Why is everyone so concerned about the existing moderators....they work for us, not the other way around....however, they do the job the way they see fit...we have no say so in what they do or how they do it......we can give away parts, sell parts, and do a plethera of other good things for the members now....without any participation or help from the moderators.....their moderators, they have their own job to do....which has nothing to do with what is being suggested here....no insults intended to the moderators, but, quit thinking moderators, think different idea, different blood
