Looks good. The clearcoat is 2K, meaning two component which means it will have a catalyst or activator, whichever one you want to call it, so no worries on the tank.

Looks great. Is that clear coat an epoxy? Because if it's not then you will be repainting it soon when gas gets on the tank.
Hey Bill how about a Urethane clear coat?

I'm not an expert painter but I do know if the clear coat isn't a 2 part system the gas will eat it up. I get my clear coat on Amazon and it's amazing. Real deep depth and goes on like silk. A little expensive but well worth it. After repainting my one tank 3 times I smartened up.

Mine is a two part thanks, you had me worried

I bet it's going to look great. I'd like to paint my own, but I'm afraid of screwing it up. Maybe my wife will let me practice on hers.

Clear coats used in automotive or motorcycle painting are typically urethane or acrylic urethane technology. Either product is catalyzed with an isocyanate hardener which makes them pretty much impervious to everything except brake fluid or paint remover. After the cross linking process is complete (usually about 7 days for a full cure) gasoline will have absolutely no effect. In fact you can wash graffiti off with lacquer thinner and it has no affect on the clearcoat. Epoxy finishes are rarely used today in anything other than aircraft, and epoxy finishes are not usually clearcoated because they have excellent chemical resistance, abrasion resistance and gloss without applying a clearcoat.

Re:First Attempt at painting! 2 Years, 11 Months ago
I painted my trunk and side bags on my V-1300T. The paint was duplicolor that I managed to match up to the Metalic Red. In between coats I would let the paint cure and then use 4 (0000) steel wool to rub out any blemishes. This also semi polished the paint out so when I applied the clear coat it would go on smoother.
I purchased urathane Clear Coat from one of our local automotive paint stores. It's a 2 part with accelerator. I set up a couple of tables with plastic covering and starting from one end painted everything down the line. When I got to the end I started over. I ended up with 5 coats of clear and a really deep gloss.
I buffed it out with polishing paste using a Harbor Freight special adjustable speed buffer with the foam pads.
The important thing is to smooth out any blemishes as you go; from the primer coat all the way to clear.

Once you get the clear coat on that bike is going to look Bad Ass.
