I just had a similar problem, I put new exhaust gaskets on and now it is fixed. After putting new gaskets the air leak stopped and the fire and popping stopped also. Remember to retighten the header pipe nuts several times after replacing the gaskets. Hope this works. It was a $19 fix and it was driving me crazy!
Like they said above you may not have any fuel in the float bowl. I would check that next.

You can check for a leak around the manifold to head fit, with some starting fluid, or carb cleaner sprayed around there when the bikes idling. If there's a leak, the idle will droop or change as the fluid gets sucked in. Keep it out of the regular intake so it doesn't screw with your test. You may have to add a second washer under the white spacer also....maybe. That will put you at a half step richer between where you were, and where you are, in the midrange.

Did you get the accelerator pump to squirt like it's supposed to, when you roll the throttle? It should squirt even when the bike isn't running, any time you twist the throttle.

well update got her running right no popping starts right up looks like 2and 3 quarters turns was the right one but i wont be 100% sure till i get her on the open road but now 2 problems first one is i have to adjust the shifter so i can get higher than 2nd gear and second is the front cylinder is leaking oil just below the head so i got to open her up again i think the bolts might be lose cuz the 2 outer bolts were so i am guessing the torque wrench was on the wrong setting

and here is a pic of my beauty
