Finally. Running great. 4 Years, 8 Months ago
So, all the issues leading to and at the GB M&G, I have thoroughly cleaned my carburetor. The accelerator pump and the accelerator jet kept plugging. (Thanks Silver_fox for that observation!).

Using Mr. Shamrock's step by step review of carb cleaning was appropriately done.

Using SKWEARpeg's advice, I have switched out my main jet to a 170. 37.5 pilot. 2 1/2 turns on the PMS. 4th clip with only the spacer (no washer).

Pump less with appropriate grizzly valve installed.

Float level at the model year 2004+ level (bike is 1999).

VROOM. Bike is now running awesome! No cough. No hesitation. Just snap response and working great.

I've got a 400 mile round trip this weekend. I'll let you know if it makes it. .

I really have to give you a very public thank you. You went so far out of your way to help me (even giving up about 3 hrs on Friday to fetch some new coils and a CDI box to rule those items out). Thank you Don!

Most excellent

I owe that idea of leaving the shim off the bottom, to what I've read on here. I noticed that several of the kit instructions have mentioned leaving it off. Black Roadie is just using the spacer below the clip, if I remember correctly, and when Rico tore his overseas carb down last winter, it didn't have a shim under the spacer. Barons is to cheap to include some extra shims in their kit(although they included 2 or 3 extra clips ), so going the 3rd and two route required ordering shims, which was a disaster at Jetsrus(even though the jets have always been fine). I think Curt uses a place called PJ's Motorsports, and they do have the shims.
I know the factory US setups, come with the shim on the bottom, and I was kinda pre conditioned to staying with it ...ie always have a shim on the bottom. It should be pretty close to the clip in the 3rd, and 2 shims under the spacer, that Curt always recommends.

I'll be pulling the shim off of the bottom of the stack on my big bike, next time I have the tank off.

I'm glad you got it squared away Warden. Did you adjust the screw on the accelerator pump just a bit as well? That pays off in fuel saved. It generally sprays more then needed. You can do it by just removing the airbox, you don't have to pull the carb. Enjoy the ride.

Always run an ounce or two of Seafoam in every other tank, and put it to bed in the winter with a big dose of 6 to 8 ounces to a full tank circulated through the system, and it'll keep it in great shape inside the carb.
