I know in Kansas you have to pay your personal property tax at the time of renewal, maybe that's why it is so expensive. In Missouri where I am a two year registration is about $40 if I remember correctly and you pay your personal property tax by January 1. On my 2002 it runs about $35 and goes down a little every year. Also have to have a safety inspection for your plate renewal if I remember correctly it's around $12.

In Arizona they go by vehicle value. I paid @28.00 for a year for my 2006, the wife's 1991 Fatboy was $18.00 plus $20.00 for the custom plate. No yearly inspection bullshit ( another reason I don't miss Texas), and no emissions test on motorcycles. For liability insurance I'm paying Geico $168 a year, that includes both bikes.

My plate is around $70 a year in Ohio. Take about $18 off if not personalized.

Beats me I pay no attention. I have to be registered and I have a vanity plate so I shut up and pay it.

Just curious how the different states/countries vary in the cost of putting plates on your bike.
Here in Iowa my plates are $10 annually for license. Last week I was in Kansas visiting my brother-in-law and he indicated that he was paying a lot more than that. He was mentioning some sort of tax and I wasn't sure if that was a one time fee or reoccurring. For some reason $400 sticks in my mind. Was hoping Kaidallac might be able to chime in. Especially as his new ride should be coming in shortly.
BIL has a Street Glide.

Registration of a new bike can cost a bit. You do have to pay a sales tax. But thats only a one time thing. My dealer already told me my sales tax will be about 2K for my new bike. Now property tax you pay each time you renew your license. Paying 400.00 each time you renew your registration would be property tax, that Street Glide must be in the 30 to 40 thousand range.

Well when you buy your bike (or car) in Iowa you pay a sales tax at the time of registration. After that it's just the annual license fee on the month of your birthday. So next year it will be $10 again (or a bit more if they increase fees).
So is this "property tax" based on the valuation of the bike? That would stink having to pay that each and every year. I assume that is the same for your cars as well?
Not sure what year his Street Glide is but it's fairly new. And he's got it decked out with some toys as well if that comes into play. Who decides the value, the DOT?

It does suck, property tax is determined by the county or state. Its the value of the property that determines the tax. So each year it is lower. Unless its reality, that always goes up...
