Local Yamaha demo day! 7 Months ago
|
|
One of my local dealers had a demo day today. Most were sport bikes. I went to see the new Star Venture and rode a V-Star 1300 Deluxe and a Bolt. Can't ride a new Venture until end of August up north.
Sitting on the Star Venture - very heavy for me at 180#, 5'-3". Lots of plastic, some even on the engine pulley cover, hard seat
Riding the 1300 - low hard seat, clunky shifting, lots of slop in the drive train, couldn't go from 2nd to neutral smoothly, poor wind protection from fairing, pretty quick but DK if faster than my Roadstar, no thumping engine soul, no redeeming qualities for me
Riding the Bolt - very cramped with small foot pegs under me, horrible handlebars with bad wrist angle and leaning forward, short and small, great fast and smooth engine and tranny
My Roadstar - "Forgive me for mounting those others baby! I love you! Will you take me back?"

agree 100% about the road star . first time I rode a road star in may of 2008, I knew I had to made it mine, and I did. since then, also rode a stratoliner, too heavy for me. a bolt--snappy but too cramped, and a 1300 and 1100--no soul and a stryker-it was ok. an indian scout--nice, and an indian vintage, and a hd street glide in 2014--loved them all, but bought a 2014 Subaru forester instead because neither a street glide nor an indian will get me home in a MN winter blizzard. also rode a raider which is the only other bike I have eyes for--some day a raider will be my second bike--and the road star and raider better damn well get along with each other because we will all be family.

Not like I would like. Heels up slightly. About the same as my Roadstar with a Roadwing and an Ultimate seat.

Thanks for the answer Shores. I already asked the dealer to research a lowering kit for me. I ca't ride a bike not having both feet flat on the ground. With my trike its not a worry, with the New Venture, It might be.

when i had my sportster, i was on a sportster forum inquiring about lower seats and so on. a guy answered, telling me to toughen up and deal with it. another idiot chimed in, saying being flatfooted was a modern thing. i had to remind these brainiacs that rigid frames have been around since at least the 30s. they had no comeback. i wouldn't ride if i couldn't flat foot it.
