Thanks for all the help and pic's. I am hoping to find a couple bikes in person with different bar heights to get a in person feel. I will be adding a batwing style fairing this coming winter also hard bags painted to match bike. Again thanks for everyones time and help.

Well we will be doing a Meet and Greet in the Smokey Mountains from Sept. 15 - 20. Not too far from your neck of the woods and plenty of different size apes for you to try out lol check it out under rides and meets section. Hopefully you can make it!

OK I have a questions about apes.. I am 6' 4". 340. I was wondering how do you determine the right size of bar. I would like to add one to my bike, but I am not sure what size I would need. Thanks in advance..

The "right size" handlebars are the ones the bike came from the factory with. Apes are an indulgence. Usually you can find them used cheaper 'cause a lot of guys find out they are not as cool as they look. If you ride in cold weather your pits will freeze. If they are not clamped down really good they can slam forward on you in a panic stop.(very dangerous) Being so long, they create a lot of leverage at the clamp, making it hard to clamp them securely. Then there's the legal aspect, the expensive cables and extended wiring and brake lines. Yea, it's a lot for something you may regret

From age 22 to 30, I refused to own a 4 wheel vehicle. I had a '49 Panhead, rigid frame, 8" over springer and 8" over apes. It gets quite cold in central Texas in the winter. This is how I know about the freezing pits, and the other problems with apes. Yet I tolerated it 'cause it looked cool. Looking back, it seems kind of silly now. I also find it odd how people nowdays run them with a fairing...what? Most fairings have a little "pod" sticking out each side of them. These pods are to protect your hands from the wind and debris. But if you have apes, it negates the use of the pods altogether. Just looks wrong to me. And a windshield? C'mon, seriously? The "cool" factor goes right out the window. All these observations are, of course, IMHO. I'm sure haters will chime in with their opinions of my opinion, and of me. But think about it before you make that leap.

We are about the exact same size. I have 18" apes on my ride. I could have lived with 16" apes, but I went bigger. There is a big difference in room on the bike with apes from my experience. I would definitely recommend going 1-1/4 diameter bars with the 1" taper at the controls. The 1/1-4" bars feel pretty sturdy. I have seen the 1" bars on an 18" ape and they feel somewhat flimsy to me.

These are 16" bars... I never put them on since I was going to paint the bike and the black wouldn't look good. I am currently looking for chrome ones. But can't seem to find apes I like.

Im not sure what size these are, but DAMNNNN! LOL

I do like the gangster ape. But If I go carlini, I will probably go Pist Ape (like the top picture) or the Menace.

I like the Menace Apes, but not sure they would flow well on my bike.

Did you have to extend your cables and stuff with the 10" or what's the maximum you can go without extending or replacing cables?

I have 10's and I had to get a +4" brake line. The rest of the cables I rerouted.
