Bob, not sure what your budget or handyman level is, but I've been thinking about a fairing for a long time myself. I've been able to see the various fairings up close and personal at Celina, and what I decided was if I ever put a fairing on, it's going to be an HD.

I think they look great, but more importantly from a functionality perspective it's nice to be able to get different gauges in - oil pressure, AFR, charging, tachometer, Roadwing setting (if you have one) etc. Possibilities are endless and you can often find used HD fairings at a good price - throw on some DChopper brackets and you're done!

Not trying to discourage you from the Tsukayu or Reckless - but I HATE buying something and then a few months later wishing I had bought something else - not because what I bought was bad, but because my needs changed or I didn't anticipate what I might want to do in the future.

That said, I don't have a fairing so I'm not really qualified to comment I suppose

Any comments are well appreciated ...how much have you seen used fairings for ?

I have the jumbo strongs. Had to mount them a bit higher due to V&H pipes. Really like the bags, feel the extra cost of the vinyl cover and side guards were worth it for looks. Picture on my account page. The mounting hardware was a bit soft and the bolts ends bent, allowing the bags to sag inward. I replaced with hardened bolts and made new spacers from hardened, chromed stock. Angled the cut on the spacers a bit. Added a washer and a rubber washer on each one for stability and to protect the backrest mount where the bolts go into the fender. Also blue threadlock on all bolts including especially the little ones that hold the bags to the mount brackets! Otherwise vibrations will eventually cause them to work themselves out. I do some vacation trips that need stuff for a variety of outdoor activities so the jumbos really fit my need. Otherwise, the strongs would probably do for most folk. Done lots of miles in steady rain - no leaks yet. I still waterproof my stuff anyway.

I like them much, much better than the hard OEM bags that were on my 2004 and even far, far better than the OEM leather style bags that were on my current 08 when I got it.

Good luck on deciding what works for you.

I bought the first 3rd gen fairing form tsukayu because I didn't want a mobile radio and would get more use out of the glovebox. Fitment wasn't perfect, originally they send me the wrong mounting instructions. Once I got the right ones, it wasn't very hard but did require some finessing. Minor shimming and starting off loose until I liked the fit.

I found that it fit fairly well around my headlight and driving lights. I got the mid length windshield but it feels like riding without a fairing or windshield at all. Lots of wind comes through the headlight opening and up the bottom and over the tank from the sides. Perhaps with a taller windshield I might not get the helmet buffeting but I'd have to buy another one for about $100.

Speakers are amazing and the amp is great. I did have a problem with the switch and handlebar controls but Tsukayu was amazing at sending out a brand new part quickly and at no cost to me. Quick swap out and things are great. I did redo some of the wiring, I just didn't like the quality of the work. I've rode through a torrential downpour heading to Cleveland and everything worked perfectly. And my glovebox was nice and dry.

I did get it gel coated but ended up with a few chips around the windshield gap and the amp ledge.

I love the fairing, it's not as amazing as a custom built HD shell with all the gauges and toys. I'm not a bad wrench but I don't have the confidence to build my own, or the money too. Hope this helps

Hi Bob.
My 0.02$
I just got my Reckless fairing 6 weeks ago.
Gelcoat finish, with the Infinity PVR250 and the 6.5" Polk Audio.
The quality and finish is just amazing
The fit is just perfect. The install was a breeze.
Last week I installed the Millenia 1702 amp because I felt that at 110-115Kmh the sound wasn't coming through well enough.
My son in-law has the Tsukayu on his 2000 Roadie and we both agree the Reckless looks better (no pun intended to those with the Tsukayu). The only draw back with the Infinity are the controls, you have to get your eyes of the road to change something. I'll have to figure out a way on installing the (pricey) wireless remote somewhere on the left handlebar

Probably question of taste.
I park beside two Electra Glides at work, and they complemented the way it looks with the Reckless fairing and really thought that is was painted.
Sideways at the speaker level the Reckless is thiner opposed to either the Tsukayu or the Electra Glide to which the two really looks similar to the exception to the guages.
I'll try to take pictures next time.

Bob,

I dont think you will get something thats plain crap no matter what brand you get. Obviously a HD is gonna take more work modding it to fit and filling it with gauges and radio. A cheap Ebay will still be fiberglass you will just have to make a mounting bracket and fill it with radio equipment. Tsukayu has some stuff no one else sells like the glove box and GPS and of course Reckless sells them complete. There are a few others but these are the big ones. You can make any of them great just depends how much you want to spend and how much effort you are willing to put in. Good luck man and as always WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PICS?

Well ive decided on the strong bags , i like the looks of them the best , i think the jumbo strongs are too wide for the look im going for .

Now the fairings ...I like the look of the reckless with the stereo in the middle but i like the functionality of the glovebox in the fairing .

Right now the 3rd gen Tsukaya is discontinued and the 4th gen will be out in a few weeks , i guess im holding off until i see pricing and what else the new line of Tsukaya has with it .

Thanks to everyone for the comments so far its been very helpful

I have the earlier version (ipod/iphone) Tsukayu Gen 3 fairing. High quality fairing but had to modify mounting brackets and spacers for proper fit. Electronics didn't last a year. I recommend Reckless.
