Adjusting rear shock on 2003 roadstar 7 Years, 10 Months ago
I have put a geno lowering kit on my bike with the hard saddle bags. I want to know If i can turn the adjusting nut farther then what they require in the manule. I have a progressive spring witch is short then the stock by 3/8 and dog bones to lower the back. But It hits on the belt guard on bumps. I'm just passed the max adjust ment but need to go farther. A mechanic told me you can turn the adjust all the way if you want to make it hard and it won't hurt the shock.is this true?

you just have to watch for coil bind when you tighten it up more. sounds you need to either raise the bags up some/loose the belt guard/get a stuffer spring.

If you loose the gaurd make sure that you won't hit the belt. But I think you can go far enough on the adjustment to resolve your problem. It tells you in the spring instructions that you can go the extra 3/8 in. I dought an extra 1/4 or so would hurt anything. I didn't use the geno kit so I just spaced them further out to keep it from hitting

When I was using Geno's kit to lower my bags, I had to put in spacers on the belt side to move the bag away enough from the bike to stop hitting the belt guard. I used nome 3/4 inch nylon spacers and had to get some longer bolts. It worked great and wasn't noticeable at all.

Remove the saddlebag, Pull up the rubber dust cover shown and switch the shock from what number it is on to a higher or lower number respectively.
