Re:oil leak 7 Years ago
I also noticed my 1700 RS with a leak under the bike. I started checking it out Friday and found where it is coming from. I thought it was the right side of the transfer case until I cleaned everything up. After running her for a bit I saw the oil is coming from the oil line that comes from the lower line on the oil tank to the engine. The leak is on the line where it attatches to the engine. It is the rear line when looking at the engine from the right side. I found on Ronayers.com that there is an oil ring on each end. I am going to replace them. I have never had a leak until sitting this winter. Thought I would pass this on. Sounds like you had the same first thoughts that I had.
Good Luck

Re:oil leak 7 Years ago
Welcome Jelliot,

I recently changed out the "Yamaha" decompression cover on my bike for a smooth one. Immediately after I had to replace the lifters (don't ask). The first ride after, I noticed some oil below the bike as you describe. I found that the bottom allen bolt had backed itself out and was not there at all. I replaced it (adding a dab of blue loctite) tightened up all the bolts on the right side, and problem solved.

WRT the "right" amount of oil: I suffered from the dreaded SVS when I first bought the bike (2nd hand from a non-yamaha dealer) and was able to convince them to "re-do" the valves with speedstar springs etc. I now replace my oil with a carefully measured 3.7 litres of oil, and a new filter each service.
Cheers,
Peggers

Re:oil leak 7 Years ago
Thanks everyone I think the oil leak is fixed it was the
rubber plug seal for the stator wires. I put some stuff called
seal-all around the plug and no more leak ,at least for now.

thanks Jeff
