Someone told me that once you start with synthetic oil you cannot go back to Dino Oil. Then why do they make blends??? What could synthetic oil do to an engine to make it use oil? I think that someone was wrong. What say U RS Clinic?

ttThat's a pile of cricket CHIRP! I had a yahoo at the Pennzoil oil change place that my wife frequents tell me that. They told her she still needed to change the oil every 3,000 miles. I have been running Dino in it ever since. There probably a higher profit for the Synthetic oil and most of them will push it for that reason. I used the Amsoil in my bike twice and then the clutch started slipping. I can't prove whether or not they put in the right stuff or not. They might have used the car engine oil which I know will mess it up because of an additive the cars need but wet clutches don't.

All I would say is before changeing from a stock engine oil to a synthetic oil you must run a Crankcase Cleaner for 7-15 minute of idle time to break down existing regular oil and to aide in removeing stock oil in the crooks and cranies of the engine and in between the clutch plates, If you do not perform this step from regular oil to synthetic oil or "visa versa" your clutch will slip... period... if not now it will later!

Generally it takes 2 synethic oil changes to remove all regular oil.

as far as oil goes in our wet clutch's... Amsoil has never left me stranded and we have gotten longer life from my clutch disc's and less oil changes! and Yes their is always some other oil that is less expensive so go with what you know and what is proven.

This can be a very expensive hobby in keeping our bikes running! 90 % of everyone know's this so were not saying anything new! Their will always be a few of you, " Who will cut corners by going the cheaper route!"
Question is....In the long run is it worth it ?

By the way....you have to excuse by remarks lately my " TESTOSTERONE " was way to freekin arse high......last couple of days. Yep I was off my rocker! so we hit the free weights "extra hard" and went out on several bike rides to blow it all off!!!!

NOT TRUE!

I say that comming from the experience of over 40yrs wrenching motorcycles/cars/Classic muscle cars including rebuilding motors along with also researching oil for another forum (Team Chevelle) over the past 4.5-5yrs due to issues with premature failure of high perf aftermarket Flat Tappet cams used in classic muscle car motors thats related to low zddp lvls in most but not all of motor oils mfg'd today.

I bothered to tell you that so you would know my $.02 was comming for many yrs of 1st hand exp and also from some yrs researching oil too so you know it's not just an opinion i obtained from changing oil & spark plugs on Saturday's.

One of the issues going back & forth between std dino & syn is that older/original motors like for example in a 40 yr old muscle car have a tendency to leak syn oil where std dino doesn loeak or leaks very little std dino .

It's partially because that older motor tech doesnt have as good sealing tech like stamped steel oil pan/valve covers vs todays more ridiged cats AL oil pans/v-covers etc with better gasket tech too.

But it's also because syn oil has a smaller mollecules on a mollecular lvl then std dino does so smaller mollecules can leak more easily then larger molecules.

So with that in mind if you have a tired motor with poor ring seal and also worn v-seals & guides it will liely use/burn more syn oil then std dino of same visc.

Lastly,some older generation motors have issues with ring not breaking in properly/poor ring seal with syn oil due to it being slicker/more slippery then your avg std dino which isnt always the case with that app but can be.

But most if not all motors mfg'd these days are designed to breakin & run on syn oil so syn oil isn't an issue with them at all.

I wouldn't do the crankcase cleaner thing. When we drain from both bolts, we still leave 1 qt of oil in the bike. If you use a cleaner, 20% of it will still be there when you add your new oil. Don't put anything in the oil tank or crankcase you don't want some of it staying there for a good long while.

If you use and change modern oils with any decent frequency, there's not going to be anything in there to clean out anyway.

What the pass car oil has that bike oil doesnt have that can in some cases lead to wet clutch slippage are called FRICTION MODIFIERS.
