Ok. Sorry this will be long, but you need the whole story.

So I didn't have enough money to buy a nice perfect r*, but I got one that had been sitting for two years for a great deal. He's was in south Carolina, I'm in north. Average temps are extremely close, he might be slightly higher elevation, but can't be by much. (This is for later)
So when I got it I started tearing it down. When I opened the carbs they were green and really bad inside. See pics. So I got all the goodies to rebuild her minus the actual carb housing and other parts that survived. Cleaned the whole system. Was really sad that such a beauty was allowed to get this bad. But he always thought he'd get back on one day.
So I did the rebuild. I'm not a mechanic but I got skills. I got that thing beautiful. Used needles and pipe cleaners, soaking and replacing until everything was free flowing again.

New the reason I mentioned our locations, is this. THIS SUCKER WILL NOT RUN RIGHT! The best I can describe. When I start it cold, the choke has to be OFF. If I choke it, it sounds like I'm choking it. If I let off is smooth. The rmps dip when iadd choke, and increase when I close it. Any throttle, coughs and sputters. Enough throttle, dies.
The jets are oem, ordered from Yamaha dealer. As I mentioned we're low lying in Carolina. The only exhaust mod was the stage 1 holes drilled in cone. Not enough for rejet. I adjusted the float, accelerator pump, pms. Still. The slightest throttle, puhpuhpuh. If I let it warm up for 10 min ir so, throttle is more whup whup puhpuhpuh. If I place my hand over Airbox opening it gets smoother but too close it dies, but still won't accept throttle. There was only one jet I didn't remove because it was acting like it would break. It is at an angle and I didn't like it. But I shot my air compressor through it and it seemed ok.
So in synopsis. The choke acts like it's reversed. It starts and idles ok, but the slightest gas kills it. All the jets are replaced or were accepting air through it. The diaphragm is good. The accelerator pump is good and it sprays good. Float sry best I can. I'm at lower elevation. Only stage 1 mod. Oh and New plugs.

Is there anyone who has any ideas? I'm dying here seeing this in my garage and not being able to ride. This weather is perfect and I'm going down the road in a cage. Smh

Did you change the intake filter? Clean the fuel line, filter and tank of gunked up ethanol fuel, set the mixture screw correctly, check for exhaust flang leaks, etc. if you didn't clean the entire fuel system, that is likely the problem. Run a tank of Seafoam through it per imstructions.

What year bike? What size jets did you put in and how many turns out on the pms screw?

Yeh, be a shame to do all you did, and any old, bad fuel was in the system to run down into your carb as soon as it put it together.

Was anything in the tank? Did you clean it? Did you go through the petcock, pump, filter and lines, as well as intake tube filter screen with cleaner to be rid of any old gas residue?

Dial the idle screw up and down a couple of turns as it is running and chase the direction that gives good results. If you have no experience at it, getting a completely disassembled carb back in shape to run can wear you out. Be patient. That's why they call it tuning. Like twistin knobs on a guitar hunting for the right sounds

I'd check the float bowl level before I did anything else.

It's not a choke. It's an enricher. It adds fuel and air when you pull it all the way out. How does that factor in to what you're experiencing?
For it to start properly, you should have to have the enricher full out, and then don't touch the throttle, when you start it.
It should start on its own, with a higher smooth idle....don't touch the throttle.
It'll get a rougher lumpy idle after about 10 to 15 seconds....don't touch the throttle.
Ease the enricher in halfway or so, and listen to the idle, it should smooth out a bit.....don't touch the throttle.

In a few moments when your ready to ride off, then, you should be able to tweak the throttle a bit, but it should stay running. Don't push the enricher in all the way, until the bike runs fine on its own, or well enough where it won't die at lights or stop signs. It could be as much as 5 miles before its warmed up enough to run right.

Th idle needs to be set around 900 rpms on a hot motor, and then left alone.

If it refuses to start the way I've outlined above, with the enricher, then you probably need to revisit the float setting. What did you set it at, and how did you check it?

I've seen guys on here who "had skills", make an absolute hash out of setting the float level the first time or two.

Also, make sure the nipple on top of the intake manifold where the AIS vacuum line connects, is sealed.

I'm a couple hours from you, but would be willing to check it out for you. I have rebuilt a few.
