FI Slip-pns 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
I've read some of the posts here that I could find and done some light searching but haven't found much that seems authoritative.
I recently got an 08 R* that has stock exhaust. I like that the neighbors in the next county don't hear me coming. There is a seller locally that has some Cobra slip-ons for a reasonable price. What is involved with changing out an exhaust? I understand that there may be mounting point issues to contend with. But I'm perplexed on if there is any changes to the ECM (car background) or whatever it's called. I know jetting in carb models is required. But for FI will the computer compensate if the O2 sensors ares still in place etc.?
I wouldn't mind getting just a bit more "bark" from my bike but I'm not looking for the ultimate in performance modifications. It appears to haul my a** around just fine.
Thanks for any input.
Brad

Picked up my Freedom Performance 2 into 1 at
http://www.spoiledbiker.com best customer service I have ever had.
In my opinion the best pipe setup for the R*
Big investment. But worth it.
I have an 02 with K&N air filter, so I had to rejet. Not sure what's involved with FI.

As Shore said the Cobra slip on's are junk and they don't even look good. They pop and crackle and just sound terrible. Get a whole new system. If you get a used exhaust system from a pre 08 bike you will just need to get a couple o2 sensor bungs welded in them and they will fit just fine. As far as changes to anything else there isn't anything to change. Even if you get a full exhaust system and air filter you don't need to change anything, the factory ECM will change the fuel mix. Don't let anyone talk you into buying a fuel controller for intake and/or exhaust mods. There are guys here that have tried them and they are useless. I'm sure if you really wanted 1 someone here has a "only used about a week" 1 that they would sell cheap because it has been sitting on the self in the garage since they removed it.

You have already have a set of stock pipes that are worth nothing in resale,
nothing to lose by playing with this before spending any money.
Drill the Stock Exhaust (stage 1, 2, 3)
