Thanks Shores !! The youtube page helped most, I just do better with seeing, some written instructions leave a lot to interpretation.

Just a quick update - a little over 15,000 miles on the 33x65 setup and no problems at all. Most of my riding is with a passenger and bags with a lot of highway miles and about 20-30% in town riding. After initial stretch I've done no adjustments to the belt and it looks as good as it did the day I installed it. This winter I'll be looking at the clutch to see what shape it is in - since I've just gone over 35K and it seems to be working fine but better safe than sorry.

So, for those who've been wondering about stress on the belt or bike I can say so far so good.

Re:Giving the Roadstar Legs - Highway Gearing 3 Years, 4 Months ago
I am running 33 front 65 rear and 127 tooth belt on my 99 R*. Had this setup on from the start of the riding season. Would like to know if I can use a 32 tooth front from a 1700 R* with my 1 1/2 belt? Don't want to buy one to find out it won't work. I really like the difference the 65 rear made but I never see 5th gear below 65 mph and am thinking the 32 front might work out better for me. Thanks in advance for any help. Mike.

If it is broke, fix it. If it is not, make it better!

From my understanding, the 32 wont work because its too skinny.

No, you can't use the 1 1/8 front pulley with the 1 1/2 belt. You'd have to find an aftermarket 32 tooth in 1 1/2 or buy another belt in 1 1/8"

I've considered going to the 1 1/8 the next time I replace the belt - not really sure when that will happen - then pulleys of either width will work.

Your shift point sounds about right. I find myself using 4th a lot more than before and only shifting into 5th on the highway. Just got back from a back roads ride, using 2nd, 3rd and 4th primarily and riding 2 up with bags. Still averaged 46 mpg with all the up and down and corners. I wouldn't change my final drive at all.

There may be someone on the forum who would like your 33 tooth.

Maybe you should start a thread and offer to swap your 33 for a 32 in 1 1/2 width?

I found a pulley. If it fits Dynas, Road kings, Electra glides, Road glides, will it fit the Road Star after the bolt holes are drilled out?

I keep finding myself in traffic going 130 to 140 km/hr and wishing the Road Star had a little more.

Does the belt guard still fit with this modification? I hate it when my pant leg gets in there
