Does the bike run better with duals?
No but you might get a little more high RPM horsepower with them at the expense of some low RPM torque.
I don't think anyone gets much usable power out of duals unless they're part of a full-on race engine build.
You definitely get a 'true stereo' sound out of 'true duals'.
AND, you can mount RSV bags without them looking like Camel humps.

Well I had FP's on my 2007 Road star and they were still on it when I sold it. LOVE the sound. I had a black set so I cannot comment on chrome.
2 into 1 is better performance but I too needed clearance for taller bags. So Freedom Performance it was. Good luck on your decision. Can't go wrong either way.

Earlier in this thread, Jclevesque mentioned that you had to raise the RSV bags if using the Freedoms. He stated that the Bassani's allowed mounting the RSV bags using the stock RSV brackets (regarding height.) I'm still not clear on horizontal spacing (issues with the belt guard.)
Did you have to custom mount the bags?

I have Freedom performance four inch on my 99 and Bassani three inch on my 01. Like them both. I like the sound of the Freedom four inch and the extra clearance. I like the chrome on the Bassanis and have rarely had them drag. I ride them both in the same type of weather and they are set up the same as far as extras. If it was not for the chrome issues on the Freedoms they would be my choice hands down. I still like the Freedoms better but I'm happy with the Bassanis also. I wish I had been one of the lucky people that got the quality chrome on their Freedom exhaust. Good luck on your choice and hope you get the ones that make you happy. Littlebull
Thanks for the very helpful comparison! How old are your freedoms? Those were the ones I wanted for looks and non-scrape issues, but the number of posts about Freedom's chrome issues are huge. G Conway, Have had Freedoms for about five years. Littlebull

Upper belt guard needs to be removed. Maybe someone has modified / fabbed something to keep it but on my bike the front bracket of the stock RSV bags where in contact with it.
Here is a pic of the HD mufflers with a home made bracket to the RSV bag brackets.

My belt guard stayed on but I fabbed a bracket for the front bag mount and used the factory spacers behind the chrome L bracket.

Thanks Mort. I may do one up. You have any dimensions on it?
