Exhaust is off ! That was a miracle. The last guy tightened them so much that I BARELY got the allen to bite on any of the nuts. Exhaust is filled w/ deep creep and plugged. We will see what tomorrow brings. Exhaust is pretty rusted since letting it sit. I may wrap them or send them out for powder coating while they are off. Still no input on the Ebay HSR ?

Careful... someone else knows better, and can respond correctly, but I remember there being a number of HSR 42's with slightly differing configurations for this, that or the other, and that not all are as compatible with our R*s as others, as far as cables and such.
Somebody else chime in, and either confirm or deny this... there are others here who know for sure.

I just don't see how a carb for a Harley is going to plug and play on a RS. IMO if your going through the hassle of putting a new carb on, buy it brand new and get the one that fits a RS. Other wise it seems you are opening a different can of worms.

Ok.... I NEVER would have believed it w/ as much (and many ) cleaner as I have run through hv this bike but I wanted to share a few pics of my progress. I first soaked the exhaust chambers w/ deep creep and then I used Valvetect marine. I am AMAZED at how much crap is coming out of the rear cylinder !!

Good Morning !!! Ok, so I saved all my pennies, dimes, nickles and LOTS of dollars and bought a HSR42 from S&S. I even got the Yost tube mod. I have rear bearings and am awaiting the front wheel and neck bearings to arrive. I installed the carb yesterday and have a few quick questions. First, where are you supposed to put the long vac tube that is attached to the bottom of the carb? Second, there appears to be quite a few places that look like additional lines should attach that there appears to be nothing to attach to . Does anyone know what to do w/ them ?I am about to try to straighten the exhaust flanges and see about reattaching the exhaust. First, I have to decide if I am going to wrap them. My pipes, at least the chrome covers-heat shields, are badly rusted. They are welded to the pipes so removing them would be a bit of a pain. I am still on the fence about which way to go w/ that one.

Roadryder, The vac line on the bottom of the carb sounds like it would be for draining the bowl but I am guessing as I have never had a HSR. As for the other carb related questions try emailing S&S. Pretty sure others on here have said he is very good at working with you to get you right. Good luck, Littlebull

I also took advantage of the exhaust being off to try to clean up the exhaust ports. It is no wonder that they have a carbon issue, the are rough as a cob ! I started and finished w/ set of accumulator piston hones and used a wheel cylinder hone to take off the rough stuff. Cannot seem to get photo bucket to work properly or I would send pics. I mean, it is not a porting/ polishing job for certain but I bet it makes a HUGE difference on carbon build up.
