Glock 19 in the nightstand drawer and Keltec P3AT in my pocket. At night the Keltec goes into my wifes nightstand drawer. I would never own a handgun with a safety switch.

I have an M&P 40 full size, and love it. No safety and Mag safety removed. I also have the 9mm conversion for it.

When I shoot IDPA I use the 9 (cheaper and less recoil) I use the 40 for defense (stopping power is more important to me the round cost.) I used to have the S&W 1006 (10mm) and loved it, but rounds got way to expensive when the FBI dropped it for the 40 (because many female and smaller agents couldn't shoot accurately with it.)

Interesting. I'm a woman and I have no problems shooting a .45, a .40, a 9mm or a .38 Frankly, I'm about equally profecient in any calibre I've tried with a handgun. I was the top marksman in my CWP class. I spent a lot of time as a girl playing with a b.b. gun and always was able to out shoot any of my cousins or neighbors. Maybe that self confidence transferred into adulthood. I've made quite the reputation with all the old guys in my area at being a good shot. Popping black walnuts off the tree with a .22 rifle impresses the old guys

The fact that you are good with one does not change the fact that the FBI ( they were issuing the 1076 at the time ) specifically stated that as the reason. I never got to use a 1076, so I don't know if it was just an internal change, or completely different gun, but the 1006 was a heavy gun. In my personal experience, I have never found any gun that a "woman" could not shoot well, but I have seen many people (men, women, small to large) that could not handle specific guns for one reason or another. I have trouble with grips that don't provide support for my pinky for example. I also have trouble with the square grip on the earlier Glocks.

While I'm a fan of 1911s (have an Officer's model as well as full sized) I also like the Springfield Armory XD series. I have one w/Trujion sights for the bedside (can find the glow in the dark).I generally prefer my XD Mod2 compact for .45 carry. Otherwise, for 9mm, I carry a SARB6P.
I personally dislike the so-called 'safety' on Glocks, as I think that its too easy to get a ND or AD, and suspect many of the accidents involving young children are because of this feature - therefore the grip safety on the XDs.
I have a handicapped sister-in-law who discovered shooting this past year after my brother finally got his LTC. In a wheelchair, she is well braced and, at her chosen distances, really tears the target up (can you say eviscerate the target?). Currently, they have to limit shopping trips to Cabela's because they inevitably end up buying another handgun. Shortly after my brother earned his license (with a Balister-Molena)they discovered a local indoor range (DFW Gun Range) that offered classes for women, taught by women. I had suggested(before this monster was unleashed) a Taurus 709 for her, partially because of the sale price. It ended up that my brother bought 709s for his wife and daughter, who took to the classes like demons! The three of them go through more ammo in a month, individually, than I go through in a couple of years (30 min. -1 hr. to get to my range).
As to those who espouse the S&W M&P, my brother bought one new from Cabela's (the Performance model w/porting) and it failed to function after the first shot. Attention from the range armorer failed to improve the weapon. Taking the pistol back to the store and swapping recoil springs also failed to correct the problem. My brother ended up getting a refund for that pistol and buying another, of which he has had no problems that I am aware of. Moral of this? There are lemons in all products. Some of us are unlucky enough to find them!

Gerry I was in no way implying that your information regarding the FBI and the reasoning for changing calibers on their weapons was incorrect. I was just putting my experience out there, for what it is worth.

That m&p your brother had what caliber and what was going on? Jaming, failure to eject or feed? Some firearms are picky on ammo. I see a lot of .380's fail to cycle due to underpowered ammo.

Shooting your shield made me go buy one. Although i got the performance center model. For the better sights, trigger and grip. The ported barrel is nice too but man does it make the slide and outside of the barrel dirty

However after the fact while the stippled grip of the performance center feels great while in your hand it is pretty rough on your sides while in a holster.

I have a few pistols but would like 2 or three more

Glock 23 (compact .40)
Glock 17 (full size 9mm)
Glock 21 (full size .45)
Glock 30s (sub compact .45)

S&w shield 9mm
S&w shield performance center .45

I want still

S&w xvr .460 magnum
S&w .357 magnum revolver
And a glock 32 (compact .357 sig)

The list grows but crap happens
