How will it die? 2 Months, 1 Week ago
|
|
Being such a happy, festive time of year, I thought this might be the best time to discuss this. What will it be like when the Road Star Clinic dies? Will it still be here, but not accepting new imputs, like some rotting corpse lying in cyberspace? Or will the whole thing be gone, just a big, vacant electronic black hole? Maybe something entirely different. Anyway, lets hear your version of the RSC in the throes of death, and have a safe and happy holiday!!

I use to fly on line in real time with others for over 10 years. Started off with F-18's on the Mac computer. That died out. Then F-18's on the PC. That died out. Then single prop planes in the Backcountry Prop Flying Club. That died out. Then Helicopters on Hovercontrol, that died out. Real-time flying, voice coms, navigation, instruction, the entire deal. Met some great people, but the situations all burned out.
At present too tired to be involved with any more online flying at night.
Got my trusty Road Star 4 years ago and the Clinic filled that void.
How will it die? Good question. My guess, unless someones grabs and carry the torch, plus has the time and resources to keep it going, what we have today in this form, will disappear.
When I check other motorcycle forums, personally I feel ours is the best of the best.

If the site does turn into a black hole I hope it's a quasar.

Who knows but if it really has to "die" I'd rather it sit here in static form so people could search the threads. The tech sections are great but some of the most valuable info has never been written up as bulletins, it was just in the threads. For example, fat rear tires. Lots of threads, not a single tech article ever written. I'd really hate to see all those threads just fall off the web, but if that's how it must be, then so be it.

I truly hope that it can survive. I would definitely be willing to pay dues or a membership fee if it would help. I love my Road Star and this forum. I have been a journeyman mechanic for almost 40 years and I try to repair as much of my equipment and vehicles as I can, and this forum and community has been a Godsend for me since I bought my first Road Star years ago. Hell, I am thinking about buying another one. I have owned all brands of motorcycles since I was 15 years old, and have fond memories of a lot of them. But nothing, and I mean nothing has been so much fun, has been so satisfying, and such a pleasure to own and ride as my Roadstars. My first Road Star was 2007 1700 midnight Silverado. Had to sell it to help with the financial situation. And I was literally heartbroken. I was without a bike for several years. I was sick and depressed. Then things started to turn around. And I found my current bike, a 2003 1600, a plain black Roadstar. I am happy again. And this group of folks here has been a wonderful part of my life. I am very thankful that this community has been here. But I am sad at the thought of it going away. I it like losing a good friend. I am sorry to be long winded, but I wish there was something we could do to help keep it going. But I also understand if it has to end. I want to thank all of the leadership here who have worked and oversaw the forum. I want to thank Gram for the tireless work that he has done. And to all of the members, thank you as well. I have learned a lot here, learned different and better ways to do things. And have saved myself a lot of money thanks to the efforts of members of this forum and community. Again I say thank you.
