Am I asking for too much? 5 Months, 1 Week ago
Just looking for some feedback on selling my bike. It was previously and is now currently listed for sale on this website as well as locally on craigslist. It's a 1999 Roadstar with 7400 miles on it. It is in original condition with just an adjustable Rifle windshield and a Cobra highway bar added. Also has extra Cobra exhaust with it. I started out asking 4000 but have recently dropped the price to 3750. It seems priced ok for the local market, particularly with such low mileage. I just haven't had much inquiry. So, it begs the question, am I asking too much? If so, some guidance is appreciated. I would love to sell it to someone on the forum if there is any interest since I have had such a good experience with you guys.

Am i just way off base on the price? Thanks guys.

Price depends on where you are located. You may be pretty on target for your area or not. These bikes have not held their value well even if they are really good bikes. Yours is 18 years old so not sure what you are expecting. This is also not the best time to sell as everyone who is done riding is selling and I am sure the interest level is not high where you are and the market is perhaps crowded also. But mainly it is the age of the bike that is against you I think. Just to let you know I have both a 1999 and a 2002 and love them both so I am not bashing you for having an older bike. So why sell?

The ultimate value is what someone will give you for it. Having said that, you might look into what NADA shows for pricing. Here's a link.

http://www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycles/1999/Yamaha

You can look it up and check off your extras. Be sure to enter the correct model as there are 2 listed (XV16AL or XV16ATL).

I'm pretty sure that it will account for your location, but I doubt it would be more than a couple hundred off either way.

Good luck

My recent experience is that these bikes (and others in this category) just don't seem to be selling well. I've been looking at a lot of $2-5k bikes in the past few months and many of the ads seem to stay up for a long time. The mostly stock 35k mile Roadie I ended up with was at the low end of that price range and even it was for sale for a few weeks.

I'm selling because I ruptured my acl and had surgery in February. The surgeon said I shouldn't ride for another 6 months. It's a tough surgery and they harvasted my own hamstrings to make the repair on my knee. That's why I need to sell.

Hip, I'm in rock Hill. I'll ask around here if you like. I have had some people show interest in my RS. You need to know that is they look at NADA they are going to try and get it around $2000 to $2500 or less. I know that I would not get anywhere near what I have in mine if I were to sell!
Do you have any pics?
You might be a little high:

Sure I would appreciate if you ask around. Mine only having 7400 miles on it and new tires with extra set of exhuasts, I was hoping for a bit more than 3000. But, I guess everybody always wants more for their own stuff, lol! Thanks for the reply.

I know you said the reason is surgery, and six months, but if you really love the bike, and intend to get back into later, six months isn't that long. Hell most of you northerners put your bikes up for the winter, and they survive. Non ethanol gas and some Sea Foam and your good for a long time. If there are other reasons, then it is none of my business, and good luck to you in the sale.

In Northwest Florida your 1999 year model bike in that configuration would find a new home for about $2000 to $2500 regardless of how many miles it had on it. Anyone can ask for more but that is a realistic price in this area for what it would actually sell for.

I have waaaaaay more money in my 2003 than it would ever sell for. My plan is to keep it until I am too old to ride safely and then give it to someone who might be interested in keeping it going. (or I might use it for target practice )

Re:Am I asking for too much? 5 Months ago
Thanks for the input, guys. I guess I have some sole-searching to do. The surgery already had me down for 7 months and 6 more really puts a damper on my enthusiasm. Plus, my wife has quit riding due to a new hip replacement she got 3 weeks ago. She won't ride anymore after her recovery and the other folks I used to ride with have passed on. So, I guess I don't have the inclination to continue riding alone on a 18 year old bike mostly out of concern for being left on the side of the road by myself as a woman, truth be told. Crime rates have gotten much worse in the area where I live....anyway, enough with the therapy session! Lol!

I really would like to sell it but I suppose if I can't get more than 2000 than I may just keep the old girl. Maybe the bike will turn me into a mechanic over time I can always just use it for short trips to the post office.
