Left side...makes it easier for me to swing my leg over the back rest. Besides I've always done it that and I'm too old to change now.

Right side, I'm tall enough. One the handlebar is in the way on the left and two I can hold the brake while getting on or off - just in case.

I get on from the left, but ALWAYS hold the front brake when boarding, raising it off the stand, or shifting from neutral into 1st gear.

That was one of the first things I learned on my very first bike, a Susucky street/trail 50 Still practice that to this day with every bike I mount or ride.

When I shut off my bike I lock the forks before I get off. The bars are turned left, so the obvious side to dismount is the right side as the bars are not in the way.
Same for mounting. I have factory hard bags and this a lot of real estate to clear with my 11D boot without scuffing anything. I place my right boot on the running board and step up, and swing my left leg over.

Only use the right if something makes it necessary. Left under normal circumstances.

From all the responses posted to this question it seems like I'm the only one that mounts from the rear. I get a short running start then a quick hop a few feet behind the luggage rack and then sail on over and land straddling the seat. I call it rear entry although my wife objects to that description. Learned the technique watching old westerns.
