Interesting sound 13 Years, 4 Months ago
So, my bike runs great - sounds great - looks great - pretty much very very pleased with it. But I get a weird noise ONLY when driving along the freeway when you get on those parallel rain grooves, you know - the ones that like to grab the tires of bikes with skinny tires and jerk them all wombly (yes, a Kentizm). It sounds like a chirp or squeek. I thought maybe it was a leaking intake manifold (maybe the cap I put on for the AIS removal?), but it doesn't make the sound on any other type of pavement other than the rain grooves. Get off the grooves it goes away. Go faster, it gets faster, go slower, it gets slower. It DOES seem to be with the engine speed, not tire speed, but I am going to have to be a lot more attentive to it next time I ride.

Did check all exhaust bolts, all are fine. Did not get up under the tank yet to look at the intake area.

Specs:
2003 Road Star
Maxflo Air kit with PMS screw rejetted
Cobra Classic Slashcut exhaust
No AIS (Barrons AIS plugs)
No SMOG crap

Any thoughts?

I believe it's just the way the bikes sound over these grooves. I have the same issue only on the grooved roads.. it sounds like my exhaust is falling apart.. I have a feeling it's just tricks being played on the ear.. I wouldn't worry about it.. I don't any more..
