Bike Flipping? 2 Weeks, 3 Days ago
Anyone else here flip a few bikes a year? Has anyone noticed the asking prices this year? It's crazy. Everyone thinks they are sitting on a gold mine. Haven't seen this in a long time. I usually pick up 3 or 4 bikes over the winter for quick flips in the spring but this winter, it's different. I spend a lot of time on CL looking. Not only are people asking crazy prices but the inventory is down also.

I usually work in the mid to lower range price bikes. Not fussy about the make as long as it is a decent machine and there's a few bucks to made on it with a little work done to them. Heck, I can't even find bikes to restore. I'm down to 2 restos for this year and will be in panic mode if don't have anymore to work on when I am not riding.

There wasn't very much in late fall either. But now, right now, is when I have always seemed to score a few bikes. Not this year. I have only managed to pick up a one owner, 2002 HD Ultra Classic with low miles and in mint condition so that's better than nothing. It's been nice flipping all these years as it pays for all the bikes and goodies for the bikes in the stable and also pays for the resto bikes and other toys without using any house money.

Oh well. Guess I just have to have a little more patience.

Having sold 3 bikes last year I decided that I'd focus on doing it again this year. In December I found a beautiful '07' with 5.000 miles for $3,400 sitting in Seattle...bought it. A month later I picked up high mileage Roadliner in Portland for a $1,000 and just yesterday I missed out on a '07' Road Star being advertised for $2,900 in that same city. Last week I found an '06' sitting in WV for $2,500 but so far the seller isn't responding to any of my emails. Yes, there are plenty of older bikes out there being advertised for big bucks, but every once in a while you come across a deal that has the potential to make money. My biggest problem so far is figuring out a way to get eyes on a bike, so I have the confidence to make the deal. I can't fly down there every time I find a bike without racking up huge travel costs that I would have to try and recover from the sale.

They're out there you just have to be diligent and patient.

Mike
