1st Long Ride On R* 4 Years, 6 Months ago
My buddy and I took our two 07 Midnights on our first long ride. We traveled from central Ohio to Sears Michigan to visits friends. Round trip was 925 miles, can you say sore butt. We stayed away from the interstates so we could enjoy the ride. Upon fueling, both of the Roadies took within two 10th's of gallon to fillup.

Riding around home I was getting 40-42 mpg. On our trip both of us were getting 46-50 mpg. It's really hard to believe that the Roadie can get the same mileage that my 650 V-star was getting. I need to deal with the carb puke thing that I discovered on this trip. Going to pull the tank and insulate the fuel line and have a look at the routing of the fuel line. I did shut off the fuel before planned stops and that helped.

To sum it up, Great ride and nice visit with old friends.

Great to hear the trip was good... You were about 8 miles away from me, I live north of Evart. Have good friends that live in the thriving metropolis of Sears.

I take a lot of long rides on my Roadie and love it! Glad you had a great and safe trip!

Insulating the fuel line will not help with carb puke though. I never had a problem with carb puke on my 2005 Roadie, but my 2007 did it like crazy! I changed to a Mikuni HSR42 carb and fixed that problem

Most guys that keep the stock carb change the needle valve to the grizzly needle for like $20 and the stock carb is read for pumpless set up. Everyone that goes pumpless on the stock carb loves it and it cures the carb PUKE!

Their is a ton of threads to search through on how to go pumpless and we are all here to help. You can do the entire pumpless mod in 3 hours taking your time. Nothing to it.

Sore butt, try using a sheepskin, bought a very nice one off amazon, Austrailian merino wool that is washable. Love it and have had it for a number of years, my knees may be sore but never my butt, roundtrip to Sturgis, 1200 miles without a sore butt!!!

I bought the E.D. standard seat 1 week before riding from Dayton Ohio to Green bay 500+ miles in one day (twice in 3 days) butt never went numb or sore. Not cheap, but by far the best seat I have ever had for long distance riding.

925 miles on the stock seat? OUCH! Made it too Florida from Central Texas back in 09 and found relief in Florida when I purchased the ultimate seat. Went on up into Tennessee from Florida and back home too Texas. Never would have made it without the seat change out. Seat still rides good.

My husband and I just did a 1400 mile, five day trip from metro Detroit to the upper peninsula of MI, all over the UP, then down the left coast of the lower peninsula and back home.

No soreness or numb butt. I have a 06 Silverado with the OEM seat, and no sheepskin. Tried the sheepskin on last months 1200 mile ride and that's when I found he seat to be comfortable for long rides.

Hate to say "WIMPS", but I was comfortable except for the downpour Monday morning. And a seat won't stop rain.

Yep! Got fairings, windshields, heated grips, radio, drink holders, cruise and well fitted seats on both roadie and connie. The "whimpies" hit me a few years ago along with deafness from years of loud pipes and tri focal glasses. but life is still good and I still love my Roadie and ZG1000. It's all about the ride!
