In 1965 I purchased a 305 Dream from Kent's in Abilene. Rode it from there to the NAS in Corpus Christi and back when I received orders for Vietnam. I don't think I could do a road trip on a 305 nowadays but I was just so proud of that thing. Anyway, back then I didn't know anything about storing a motorcycle so just parked it in the garage for the duration.
When I was headed back home Dad had Kent pick it up to get it ready for my return. I was so disappointed to learn that the gas tank had rusted through. Kent told me about a new bike from Honda - the 450, offered a trade and I went for it. This was about December 1966 and it was the first 450 Kent sold. It was just a 4 speed but plenty fast. What a bike!

This is a nice restoration but I feel that the price is a bit too high.
The highly sought after 1965 t0 1967 CB450 you can buy restored for $6,000 right now.

I've had a bajillion different motorcycles over the last 50 years...on road, off road, choppers, crotch rockets and more and built plenty too. However three bikes stand out to me. My Roadie as I have kept it the longest of any bike, my 78 Yamaha XS750 (3 cylinder shaft drive) and my 1974 Honda 450. They all have reliability in common. However the 450 is the one that sticks out the most, though not by much. I rode it as a daily driver in SoCal as I had no car. I took it on long thousand mile trips all over the west. Other than standard maintenance I never did a darn thing to it nor did I modify a single thing. I'm a fairly big guy and of course it was a tad small for me but it did the job. It would run all day at 70mph with me and my gear on it without complaint. I think back and realize just how good it was and it was a fluke I bought it. I sold my Honda 350 to a guy and walked a couple miles to the HOnda dealer to buy a Honda CB750. I get there and I can't qualify for the loan! I have no bike, some money for a down and I cant buy the bike I want. I couldn't qualify for the CB550 either. I was afraid I'd end up with another Honda CB350 the way things were going!. Fortunately the 450 made the cut with the me and the finance company and there you have it. Lucky for me I sold it to buy the 1978 Yamaha which was damn near as good!
