I did reply on another thread. I'm not a touring type rider, and I went in '14, but trailered my bike 950 miles from SE MA, as I wasn't going to ride that distance. I loved it, and had a wonderful time, but I'd also been to a few NE M&G's in Maine, and Coot's in NY in '13. The rides there are up and down hills, and thru twisty back woods roads, and along rivers... just tremendous! That, and Maine was 125 miles away, while Coot's was 250 miles. Did I mentioned that Celina was about 950 miles?

Western Ohio is, well, flat, with long and straight roads. I enjoyed the stops more than the rides.

When I really come down to it... I've YET to find a comfortable seat I can remain in saddle for more than even 100 miles. I've tried the Ultimate (sold it to txulrich), and I now have an ED. It's my bony, skinny butt primarily. IF, I could enjoy long stints in the saddle, I'd likely be more of a touring type rider, and would probably enjoy the challenge of the long rides getting there... but, my fanny goes dead by the passing of the first hour on the road.

I've encouraged Coot to host another, like Sept. '13, and offered to help with cost and logistics, as that one was incredible, but I don't think he's up to that again.

This probably wasn't of any help, but does explain why I never returned after '14.

The number one reason is life gets in the way. That being said if you want to increase attendance move it somewhere more central. Celina works for me when I can arrange it because I have family in Ohio and I go every year anyway (although the last few years havent lined up) but lets face it Ohio is on the countries northern boarder and no amount of calling it midwestern will change that. The Eagles club really goes out of their way for the event and thats hard to overcome going somewhere else, but it is a long haul for a lot of people.

I also went in '14. I towed Curt's Black Ice and my bike from Dallas. It was/is a great event and I do want to get back. It will be a matter of the planets and fates aligning that will allow me to go:

1) We typically go to Virginia for grandbaby time at 4th of July so back to back weekends are a non starter for me.
2) Previously, vacation time was a factor but now I work contract. If I don't work I don't get paid.

All that said, I will try to make the closer (to where ever I am) M&Gs when I can. I went to Eureka Springs 2 years ago and had a blast. Lord willing I'm going to Western NY next month.

It wouldn't be fair of me not to leave some suggestions.
1) I do want to ride.
2) That said, the stops we made in '14 were fantastic. Seeing some of the local culture was really cool.
3) It's harder on the Eagles Club, but having ride options might be a good thing. Say a ride with no stops vs. a ride to a museum.
4) I'm not into bar hopping either. Enough said!

I've been to our Celina event the past four years. Of course, it's close for me, 150 miles. The ride to this years M&G was terrible but well worth putting up with rain all the way. I've met many good people in this group and even formed a group of core friends. At 70 years old now, I don't know if I would travel hundreds of miles to attend, so I do understand the comments from members who must travel long distance.

I must be old, I don't understand the need for speed during the out of town group rides. My old eyes just can't observe the country side. I enjoy just looking around, taking in the views of farms and barns. What's the rush?

The HD museum was wonderful, and a extend a "Thank you" for arranging the visit. I believe there are many forum members that could attend who live within a reasonable distance, but I understand that there are family duties that get in the way. I'm retired and my children have long ago left the nest. Heck, I don't even have the wife thing to deal with, (I'm keeping this house)

Went the past 3 or 4 years but not this year.

New house, too much $$, too much do to take off for the whole weekend, and even a 6-7 hour day trip was out of the question. Beautiful weekend and I would have loved to have been there, but I did finally get to fire up the roadie at 5:30 on Sunday.

Missed seeing some guys and gals from years prior. If anyone wants to hold a mini M&G, you're welcome to come on over to the new place.

I've been out 4 years in a row and I always have a great time. Due to time constraints I was on a trailer and with the weather it worked just fine. It wod be a shame to lose the venue. On Saturday night JJ was so good to us. A group of us were singing and having fun and JJ jumped up and asked if we wanted the DJ to stay. She took care of us to keep the party going and we certainly did. It just goes to speak to how much we mean to the Eagles and we should show them how much the hospitality means to us.

Since Roadstars aren't being made any more I would assume there will be fewer riders as the years go by. I'd also be curious to know if the level of individual member traffic on this site has changed over the years and if so what are the numbers. Any administrators know if traffic is tracked? Membership?
Its not about the bike. We had Harley Davidsons, Indians, Victories and a couple other bikes.

I mentioned to JJ that multiple guys always want to take off on Friday to go see the Air Force museum but many don't get in with enough time to do so and suggested that as maybe a Saturday event.

The Air Force museum was on the agenda a few years ago but was removed. It is 160 miles, 2.5 hour round trip. The riding time is right, but you could spend 6 hours in the museum and not cover it. I'm not sure how much you would cover with a two or three hour tease, but you need to figure you are eating up the complete day between breakfast and dinner.

The Air Force museum is a must see though. We went a day early last year to make sure we could cover it.

We can get a good ride in with any destination, you just need to plan the route. For the HD stop this year we could looped around and taken an hour or two to get there instead of using the direct route.

I'm also wondering about making it simpler and hitting the space museum instead..

Re:Celina - If you ever attended please reply 8 Months ago
Well for me this year it was just finances. Work has been slow and just couldnt afford the trip. I've done the trip twice, once trailering and once riding. For me, this is my annual vacation (that I dont get this year ) its about the journey, the destination of Celina could be anywhere, but we dont have the Celina Eagle Riders hosting us anywhere and they are what make the destination special.

I live in Phoenix, AZ or as I have come to call it East L.A. This city has gotten huge and no one has any respect for anyone else out on the road. Celina is, well that quaint little town that I wish life would get back to. Last year, having lunch with Warden on Friday in town, I didnt wear my helmet, in fact I left my helmet in the room the whole time I was there. I dont ride 2 blocks in Phoenix without a helmet. Its a total different way of life compared to my daily living and I look forward to it again next year.

For me the best part about my Celina trips with always be the journey. I have spent hours looking at google maps and have plotted at least 2 different other routes to travel over the years to come. I made the statement to JJ last year that as long as I am able to be there it will be my vacation destination for as long as they are willing to host it.

See ya all next year!!!
