OK, My Turn, Fuel Pump 1 Year, 5 Months ago
|
|
I went to ride yesterday and no fuel pump clicking. It is one of those "worked when I parked it" things.
Anyhow, I pulled the tank to get to the fuel pump wire connector (Dumb place for it). Hooked my volt meter to contacts (from Ign side of connector", turned on switch, volt meter went to 12.7 volts for two (2) seconds and dropped to zero. Tried again and same happened. Guessing a relay?????????????? There are three(3) relays under the right side cover, two (2) black and one (1) white. So which is what?
Wiring diagram in shop manual looks like same relay operates "Fuel Pump and Starting circuit cut-off relay"
Is the fuel pump pressure switch internal within the pump? Fuel lines disconnected from pump now.
Guess it might be time to go pumpless? 2007 Silverado, 11,000 miles.
Need help, planning a weekend trip.

Yep go pumpless, vent the gas cap, and replace the needle/seat with the grizzley part. Check the tech article for the instructions. SKWEARpeg (Gordon) helped me with mine plus the rejetting. It runs much better! Someone with more knowledge will be on soon to help and explain better than I can.

For sure dump the pump. Stupid idea to have on a bike with a carb.
Plus you get to make the left side of the engine look less cluttered!

The power pulse to the pump with just turning the key on only lasts a couple of seconds, then it removes power. It's like a priming cycle. While you are pissed at it, go ahead and dump it. If you don't, you could end up on the side of US 421 about 40 minutes south of Eureka Springs doing a half assed plumb around to do the OTHER 400 miles to get home. Or something like that.

Thanks fellows for the prompt replies. Might as well "Dump the Pump" at this time.
Question: If I remove the pump and bracket, where or how have you mounted the Enricher/Choke cable? It looks to be mounted at the lower portion of the pump bracket.
I'd still like to know which of the three relays do what? One looks to have up to 8 wires leading to it and the other two have 4 wires each. Two black and one white.
Thanks, Jinx

I'll add a couple of links here, with part numbers etc. Dump the pump, and don't look back.
You can chop the enricher bracket off the bottom of the fuel pump bracket, drill a hole and mount it where the fuel pump bracket is. Make your own. Buy the Yamaha rear tank bolt bracket in the links, and use it.
Take your pick.

I know at least one person that would categorically deny, until his dying breath (or his dying pump) that this EVER happened!!!

SSCC has one. It's about 3/4 way down the page.

You can also use Yamaha choke bracket part number 4tr2637g-00 and it is only about $3
