Extended warranty worth it??? 6 Years, 11 Months ago
Wondering if the Yamaha 4 yr extended warranty is worth it for $449. I have got a year to decide whether or not to go with it. Seems like the bikes are pretty well build and major disasters are few and far between. So did anyone elso get it or should I pass?

I bought it when I bought mine and I ended up using it a few times. In my case it was well worth the price. Kind of like insurance - might use it; might not but there's always that chance that it'll pay off big time.

That's a good price too. I think mine was close to that 12 years ago.

Well, I will give you my 2 cents worth . I bought my bike new and declined it . But seems like every time I reply to a thread like this everyone else says something different . Not that it is bad just me. I have had it for 3 years now and saved the money. We will see what RSC group thinks.

Got one when I got mine (used). Use the $$ for chrome and leather. Unless it's already under a warranty it's a waste. There's enough good info here so you can save even more $$. Plus doing it yourself is a confidence builder.

If you plan to sell your bike while its still under an extended warranty, its a great selling tool. That's really why I bought the extended warranty in '08 when my bike was new. I planned all along to sell it before the warranty expires in 2013. As many of you know, I sold my bike last Friday and I think that the extended warranty gave the new buyer (who's never owned a Road Star) a lot of confidence in his decision to buy it.
'Just my 2 cents!

Extended warranties are a waste of money and percentage wise, it gives more profit to the dealer and that's it.

Green,
For the most part, I agree with you. I've only bought 2 extended warranties in my life (I'm nearly 63 now and have bought a lot of stuff over the years).
The first one I bought was on a digital camera because it was my first one and did't know what to expect. I accidentally dropped it and it stopped working. I took it back to BestBuy and they exchanged it for a new one that was an upgrade from what I had as they stopped making the one I broke.
The second extended warranty that I bought was on my Road Star. I actually bought the warranty for much less than the retail price from my dealer because he matched the price I found online from another dealer. I'm sure the new owner of my bike is happy he has it even if he never uses it!

Hi Joe, This is Jeff from Rock River Power Sports. I sold you your bike!
Send me a PM here, I have some news on your bike but I won't be at work until Tuesday.
Nothing serious, just an update you might want to have.
