Kissed my bike goodbye 7 Months, 1 Week ago
I drove to Red Bluff and dropped the extra keys off, picked up my keyring, personalized license plate and my windshield bag, and kissed my bike goodbye.

Then I went inside and bought myself a nice modular helmet, bought one for toby, and looked at the line-up they had on the floor...

There is a really cute vstar 650 that has been really tricked out for $3k

By the time the helmets we ordered are in, I will have my insurance check *rubs hands together*
Muahaha
Yes, I am bad... Toby should really spank me

You can't keep a good (and sometimes , deliciously bad) girl down!

Good for you. My brother is still recovering from being rear-ended on the highway when traffic slowed. With a child on the way I think he is going to give it up. I couldn't give it up, but I understand where he is coming from.

I know a few people who put their riding on hold until the kids were grown. If I had been riding when mine were young, I probably would have wound up raising my very own MC ... Especially if I had met Toby back then.

I don't think I can give it up, however at least for a while, easy rides on back country roads will do the trick for me.

I hope your brother recovers quickly. He will have plenty to do soon with that baby coming =)

So glad to see you are doing better. I know you aren't seriously considering a 650, right? You should ride Toby's bike before you throw down on another bike. You may feel the want to ride, but you won't know how comfortable you'll be with it until you actually do it. You wouldn't be the first person who lost their nerve after a bad get-off. Better to find that out before you buy another bike. My brother went down 3 or 4 times and always got back on, until the last time. The want was there but the residual fear made it impossible to enjoy it. There's no shame in it, you have nothing to prove to anyone, including yourself. There are literally billions of people who wouldn't even consider riding a motorcycle in the first place, let alone after a bad accident. However it works out for you, I wish you all the best and a continued recovery.

Well that is the plan actually. That is why we bought new helmets, so I can ride on the back of his (once my cast is off and pins out of my wrist) and then eventually share the driving when my hand is stronger.
My lic plate is going to go onto his bike for now, since both our names are on it. I plan to get a few things for the stryker like iso grips, and we will revisit buying a second bike next year.

However it IS fun to look at bikes. I was considering something like a stryker or the 650 for myself because they are lighter bikes, and would be good for me to regain strength on. Roadstars are a bit heavy and right now, I couldn't muscle one around the yard if I wanted to.

I will probably wind up stealing Toby's stryker from him, and getting him that raider he has always wanted lol.

Time will tell. right now, what I REALLY want is this cast off, and the pins out of my wrist, and a ride around the lake on the back of the blue tiger...

Glad to see your feeling better.

There are no set rules that apply to everyone, but from what I've seen most people that decide they don't want to ride again decide it right away. "I'm done, that was it" type thing. And we've seen many people change their mind about that afterwards.

The ones that still want to ride are the ones that are OK to keep riding.

As for the 650, I don't know what you got on the last bike, but with Roadies being cheap now it seems like you should be able to go back a few years in age and get one for what is left out of your check. Especially if you have the time to look.

I just saw the pics. How bad was the bike? Did it bend the frame or was it more cosmetic stuff?

With the attachment you have towards it. Would it be worth buying back from the Ins. Company? Pick up some used parts along the way while you recover and make it your own again?

Just curious. I've never done something like that, but might consider it if the circumstances were right.

Sounds like a pretty good plan. The 750 to 900 cc range might be a good size. Be careful sharing driving 2up if that's what you meant. It takes a lot of stabilizing strength and that may be a bit much until your full strength is back. I'm with fb on riding solo before considering a prchase. Its hard to tell how youll feel at 60mph behind the bars. Best to you. It's great to hear you express your enthusiasm for riding.

So glad you are feeling better. Maybe take a look at the Indian scout. I know you want a blue one but...kicking tires can be fun...http://www.indianmotorcycles.net/threads/2016-scout-abs-1340-miles.183801/
