Smartpartz Exhaust Baffles 7 Years, 9 Months ago

Has anyone tried these baffles?

If yes;
What pipes do you have?
Any difficulties installing?
Are you pleased with the change in sound?
Would you buy them again and/or recommend them to a friend?
Thanks for your input.
BTW; I have Yamaha Speedstar long drag pipes and they are quite loud!

I have the same pipes you have and they are loud. If you you get any info on these baffles and if they will work on the long drag pipes, please keep us updated. I would be very interested in Quieting these things down without replacing them. I guess the big question would be will they fit? The long drag pipes have a non removable baffle. If you even want to consider it a baffle.

Bill I'd be very interested in your experience with these baffles if you get them. I've got 3" Hard Kromes that have a bit more bark the I'd like.
I like the look of the long pipes and have been looking for a reason to keep them...

I had the HK K2's and they had a harsh crack to them. After many baffle that I made I found if you weld short staight piece of muffler pipe that you can buy at an auto parts store to the end of the baffle it gets rid of the harsh sound. The reason for the harsh sound is the cavity that is larger than the inside of the baffle. If you want to see what they look like click on my little world unser my avatar and look at the pictures. Real cheap fix the 2-3 in long pipe is about $2 each. Make sure the pipe comes out even with the end of the pipe end cap.

After several emails back and forth with Chris at Smatpartz, I was almost ready to place an order but wanted to investigate a little more before I did it. To install this new baffle you need to remove the original baffle that appears to be screwed in even though they are supposed to be non-removable. The new baffle goes inside the original baffle and the 2 are then secured inside the exhaust pipe with a screw. The heat shield needs to be removed to get at the screw holding the original baffle in place. Unfortunately, removing the heat shield also involves either loosening at least the rear exhaust pipe or completely removing the exhaust system. I decided that this is a bit much just to find out if I like the sound with the new baffles. So, I'm going to leave well enough alone for now.

Dave,
I finally bit the bullet and bought the SPZVH22520 Hard Kore baffles from Smartpartz for my Yamaha Speedstar long drag pipes. They were $75.50 including shipping. They are a very high quality product.
I installed them today. The Hard Kore baffles don't fit inside the Speedstar long drag pipe baffles per their instructions so don't bother removing the Speedstar baffles from your pipes to install them (the Speedstar baffles are removable even though they say otherwise). Fortunately, these Hard Kore baffles do fit nicely inside the exhaust pipe itself.
You just need to drill one 5/16" dia. hole in each pipe per the instructions and slip the new baffle in the end of each pipe, install the retaining screw and you're done. Of course you do this after you remove the exhuast pipes from the bike and then the heat shields.
The new baffles do make a difference. They take the "sharpness" or "bark" out of the exhaust sound and reduce the Db's but they are still plenty loud enough to be noticed. My wife, who doesn't ride, even commented that my exhaust sounds more "mellow' with these new baffles.
Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.

Bill
I ended up changing my exhaust to VH propipe. It was a big improvement in performance (over 7 HP per dyno results) and sound. Nice to hear that the hard kore baffles are a good quality part. Thanks for feadback.

I haven't drilled mine and installed yet but they do fit right on the Speedstar long drags without removing baffle.
Bill - sounds like you beat me! Went out of town this weekend for highschool reunion. Had a blast!
