Thanks for the great explanation and pics.

My question is, are these what I would need for my 2002?

Yes. I'd check with Tim Bondurant... he can get you those pads for that price *SHIPPED* to your door.

Biker Performance is a minimum of $10 for shipping.

Have you got a link?

You can reply to his first post and ask for a price for pads for your Roadstar and he'll get right to you usually.

I am just trying to verify the torque setting for the front brake "union" bolt. The service manual states it as 22 ft/lb. Is this correct?

Go with what you read says, I went with what it said when I did this. No idea. Although I have went over 50K miles with it this way, 3 sets of brakes.

Re:Front Brake Maint. 5 Years, 6 Months ago
Getting ready to do the front pads on my 06 RS as I just noticed them starting to squeak and when I visually inspected them, I can't see any pad left on the outters of each side

Which pads should I get and where is the best place/price?
Poking around on ebay and found these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Semi-Metallic-Front-Brake-Pads-2005-Yamaha-XV1700-RoadStar-Midnight-Warrior-/300768315186?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4607304732&vxp=mtr

I personally prefer name brand parts on brakes. SBS has always done well for me. FYI, SBS makes all the Pro-stop branded Parts Unlimited pads. The less expensive ones and the higher end ones with the copper plated backing plates as well.

Regardless, if you wore them to the plate, you're doing some braking! I would go with a Sintered HH+ pad if it was me, but that's up to you.

Thanks...do you have a link? part number? etc

I am not sure how worn they are exactly yet till I get them off. I'm sure it's not metal to metal yet...but I know it's close since I can't see any pad when looking at them with the caliper still attached.

Also when looking at some Sintered pads made by DP they have the following note

NOTE:Recommended for track use ONLY
NEVER USE SINTERED BRAKE PADS IN BIKES ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED WITH NON-SINTERED BRAKE PADS. Check your owners manual to see if sintered metal brakes were OEM equipment on your motorcycle.

My bike is a 2006 Roadstar Silverado 1700

Your originals are sintered metal, and DP makes excellent brake pads. I'll get you some info later on others. Be about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Gotta work out to keep my good cholesterol down!
