Estimate for an oil change 5 Months ago
Stopped at a local bike shop today to get an estimate for an oil change.
4 qt. synthetic oil and 1 filter. well when they got done with disposal fees and labor they quoted $120.00.
I had my truck serviced yesterday at the dealership 6 qt. conventional motor oil, filter and a 4 tire rotation including tire pressure check.
Bill came to $48.00. WTF?

I'd used this same bike shop once before and was charged $75.00 for a stock air filter so I thought I'd get an estimate this time.

I decided to say screw the bike shop and do it myself
4 qt. mobil 1 v-twin synthetic oil $38.16
1 Fram oil filter $7.00

Good on you, Dick... plus, you'll gain the confidence and pride that comes from learning and doing it right by yourself, not to mention the coin you'll be saving!

It's better to do it yourself at least that way you know it was done right oh and one more other thing you might want to pick up a couple copper washers

The stock drain plug washer is not copper. It is a hollow crush washer. It seals better.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Anyone know the part number for the washers? Are these something that can be bought at a hardware store or do I have to get them from a star parts supplier?

Your local dealer is the best source. Make sure they are the hollow ones. I bought a bunch of automotive ones and they were too hard, didn't crush easily and ended up leaking. Went back to OEM.

GASKET part number is: 214-11198-01-00 boats.net has them for $1.60

The drain plug part number is: 90340-14132-00 in case you need one of those.

Only reason I know is that I just ordered them last week!

Thanks! I'm assuming that both the cc drain plug and the oil tank drain plug use the same gasket?
