Headlight Out 5 Months ago
Hey guys, so my headlight went out the other week and I've just gotten around to replacing it. To my surprise, I put a new bulb in and it still didn't work. Upon closer inspection I noticed one of the three terminals which feeds the headlight is burnt up. Not sure what caused it, but it looks like the plug in that hole probably came loose and caused some excessive heat buildup. Anyways, it still doesn't work even with the new bulb but I'm wondering where to go from here. Order a new connector? Restrip the wire? I'm not sure I can crimp it back into that slot though since it's kind of inside the plug area.

Any advice would be great, thanks.

Did you check the fuse?

Yea, swapped a new fuse in and still no luck. I don't have a multimeter here with me at the office but I'll check the terminals once I get back home to see if the burnt one is getting voltage.

I thought I just read that there are two fuses. One in the headlight bucket and the main one under the side cover. Did you check both of them. By the way, that plug looks way better than mine, mine comes off in three pieces and is crispy.

Hmm, can't say I checked one in the headlight bucket, not sure I saw one in there either. I'll do some googling, thanks for the jumping off point though. I was also surprised that the block would be bad since it was still getting good metal to metal contact with the bulb.

So, more reading, if there is not a fuse in the headlight bucket there should be. It is for the passing lamp circuit, (if you have passing lamps?) It says the tight bends in the passing lamp circuit tends to lead to broken wires and direct ground. Just an idea.

Auto parts store has replacement headlamp bulb connectors, just did mine a month ago. Sucks riding at night with no headlight!

What Daveto said. Any auto parts store will have a replacement socket for the H4 bulb that are more heat resistant.

Re:Headlight Out 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I don't have passing lamps but I do see those fuses in there, they don't connect to anything anymore.

I'll get a multimeter on it this weekend and swap out that socket if that's the problem.

Mine did this a couple of years ago,I never really figured out why but I had to replace the plug before it worked again. You can find generic plugs fairly easily on line and at the auto parts store.
