battery shorting 4 Months ago

03 roadstar Silverado 1600. riding with a brand new battery with 310CCA. wife bought me a blue tooth amp and speakers for my bike. well after installing I noticed that my head light would flicker a little. read up on it and saying that my charging system couldn't keep up with extra load. so I ordered an upgraded stator and rectifier for my bike and went ahead and ordered a starter rebuild kit bc it seemed a little weak. Ran my bike for the next week without radio until everything came in. well went to start bike one morning and it tried and then lost all power. checked all fuses all them were good. put volt meter on battery and it read 0 volts. took battery to auto parts store and they said battery was bad. called company and they overnighted me a new battery. plugged it in and bike started right up. replaced stator, rectifier, and rebuilt starter. bike ran great charging system checked out good. couple days later went on a ride with some friends and lost power to bike. another brand new battery read 0 volts. this time I was 2 hours from house. any idea of why I would go through 2 brand new batteries like that? also I have replaced all battery cables at beginning of month

You say the new charging system checked out good, What was the charging voltage?? The battery obviously shorted out for a reason if it won't take a charge.

That should be good and not overcharge to hurt the battery. What brand battery? Could you have just coincidentally got 2 defective batteries? I know it don't sound logical but the charging system didn't fry them with high voltage at 14.5v. I'll be watching this thread keep us posted on what you find.

Hows your stator ground and V-R ground to frame. Rev the motor., When the DC hits a predetermined level, typically 14.5 volts or so, the sensing circuit tells the thyristor, which is nothing more than an on/off switch, to turn on. When it does, it connects the stator coils to ground, which kills the alternator output.

With the key off disconnect the ground post on the battery and lightly touch the cable terminal back to the battery as if you’re trying to strike a match. Look for small sparks to see if something is drawing off the battery.
