#1024593 jd750ace (User) Front toward enemy Platinum Boarder Posts: 18763 Re:battery shorting 3 Months, 4 Weeks ago   When I lost the regulator the 2nd time in my SV, I started with a dead battery with almost no residual voltage. I activated, top charged, and installed the new one. Idle charging looked fine. Plugged my little 7 dollar volt meter into the lighter socket I run on my tank bag and took off down the road. 3 minutes later, upward of 19 volts output. Pulled in the clutch, dropped back to normal range at idle. Spin the motor up to 4K rpm, back to 19 volts. Replaced it with a MOSFET R/R from a FI Road Star. The opposite side is power and ground. This was on my SV650, but there are plug kits available for cheap, so you can connect the MOSFET to pretty much any bike.
