Re:battery shorting 3 Months, 4 Weeks ago
When I lost the regulator the 2nd time in my SV, I started with a dead battery with almost no residual voltage. I activated, top charged, and installed the new one. Idle charging looked fine. Plugged my little 7 dollar volt meter into the lighter socket I run on my tank bag and took off down the road. 3 minutes later, upward of 19 volts output. Pulled in the clutch, dropped back to normal range at idle. Spin the motor up to 4K rpm, back to 19 volts. Will boil out, burn through the mat, and short out an AGM.

Just got back from biketoberfest in Daytona Reckless fairring where they install$800 stereo most had has a hidden power switch to prevent current draw also a lot of those newfangled Chargers the digital ones they won't work on a dead battery you're better off using an analog old style Charger on like 6 amps for an hour or two no more watching it carefully digital one will think it's dead and not try to charge it I've had that happen left key on I think the digital charger might need a few volts to do it's thinking or the program on the chip tells it not to do anything below a certain voltage

Voltage regulator shunt failed. Replaced it with a MOSFET R/R from a FI Road Star. Works like a champ.

I'm curious about how you wired our single plug to the dual plug FI regulator.

One side is the 3 wire AC set. The opposite side is power and ground. This was on my SV650, but there are plug kits available for cheap, so you can connect the MOSFET to pretty much any bike. It’s a higher operating capacity than the late model carb bikes as well.

found to be a brush wire in the rebuilt starter touching the side and shorting out. causing it to fry battery. took starter to rebuild specialist and he found and fixed it. bike running and starting like a champ

When you have a dead short like that or you leave your key on which is essentially the same thing your battery will go completely discharged but the battery is still salvageable if you have the right equipment as described previously I hope this is the end of your trouble I have had 2 OEM starter brush sets crack at the 90 degree bends close 2 the hot bolt but never had what u described
