fuel gauge stopped working 2 Weeks, 5 Days ago
Today I went for a ride, following which I jet washed the bike(to wash away the winter road salt).I then went to start the bike again and the battery appeared to have lost its charge. As I was trying to start the engine the speedo needle froze on 60mph and the fuel needle on full.I have recharged the battery, the engine now runs but the fuel gauge has stopped working.I did run the engine for some time to get it properly warm.I don't know if the speedo still works(although both needles do sweep when ignition is turned on)as I have not ridden it again as yet.
Any ideas what could be at fault?
Thanks,Ian

I have had various electrical issues after using high pressure wash / rinse on my 99. Blow dry with my compressor, or wait 24 hrs and the problems all go away. I would try that before getting into major troubleshooting. As much as I hate to admit this in public, once I didn't notice that the water pressure had moved my kill switch (I never use it) and I spent 4 Hrs tracing wire before I noticed.

Check the green wires/plug behind the tank after removing the seat. That’s the wiring from the tank’s sending unit to the gauge. It’s possible the connection is soaked.
