Fuel pump power 10 Years ago
|
|
Here's a question for any spark heads out there. Is there a circuit / relay / or whatever on the Roadie that kills power to the fuel pump after a few seconds if you turn the key on but don't start the bike?
Wiring schemtaics give me the heebeegeebees.
Thanks

I'm no spark head , but I was thinking of this same thing last week when I attempted to relocate it. I believe it builds up to a certain pressure and cuts itself off, probably some kind of pressure regulator built into the pump itself, Just my guess.......The problem I had with mine tough was when I left the fuel line disconnected from the carb and turned the key on to see it was purging out,(I thought it would keep pumping fuel) I found then I may be wrong, becouse it would run a few seconds and then shut off. So after thinking about it I guess my conclusion would be......IDUNO

Not positive on any of this, but...
I believe power is always on to the fuel pump when the key is turned on. I think the fuel pump has an internal cutoff circuit that stops the pump when the pressure is correct (about 3.5 psi).

well, I don't understand why my relocation job didn't work , I double checked for crimps and everything. When I pulled the fuel line off the carb it would still run for a couple of seconds and shut off, it pushed fuel out fine until it shut off, wierd wierd wierd I put it back in the stock position and rode over 100 miles this weekend and everything is fine, i'm going to leave it like it is now........until I get bored then who knows what will get taken apart and modified.

Hey Musky, are you trying to relocate yours, or are you just curious?

Thanks folks.
I'm just trying to help someone out. He is having issue with his pump. It isn't the pressure switch. If he turns his key on but doesn't start the bike the power to the pump cuts off after 6 seconds. Did it three times in a row. I think his pump is hatched. I don't think it's anything to do with the electronics in the bike. He tried a borrowed pump and it didn't do it.
