I had a custom exhaust system on my Vstar 1100 and my dog (shepard mix)would bark at it when I started it up but he goes absouletly beserk at my R* with the V&H longshots. Can't say I blame him because I didn't really like the loud snap, crackle whatever you want to call it. Anyway, I made a set of quiet baffles, it's still loud but has a mellow throaty sound and my dog doesn't really pay much attention to my bike like he did before.

Yeah I get that all the time...lol. You can check FedEx and UPS if you want but it'll be a lot more than "Holy Shit !!". More like "No Friggen Way!!! I'm not going to pay that!!! and That's more than the damn thing is worth!!

It's one of the reasons I make a lot of my own stuff (a) it takes to long for something to get here and (b) It can cost more in shipping then the price of the part.

That was my suggestion...
BYW...they are on my bike...best horns I've ever had and when I use them they always serve the purpose

I think I finally solved the problem with these VH pipes...whoo hoo!!! I've tried every mod out there to take some of the snap, crackle and pop out of this exhaust. I've modified the baffles with steel wool, washers, lollipops, ceramic blanket, fiberglass and anything else you can think of that will fit up the pipe...all with almost no effect. I've made my own baffles using different designs that I found and some I made up and again it was just a waste of time. That is until yesterday when I was messing around with yet another test baffle when it popped out and the exhaust tone dropped significantly. My brother and I were standing there and both of our eyes lit up when we heard that low rumble coming from an empty pipe. It dawned on me that every baffle design no matter what it was decreased the interior diameter of the pipe thereby raising both the velocity of the exhaust gases and the frequency of the sound output. All I had to do is come up with a design that didn't do any of that! A cup of coffee and a few hours of head scratching later I solved the problem and set about building the new baffle. This is so easy it's astounding! I ran down to the hardware store and bought a 3'x4' piece of 1/4" square screen mesh. I cut it in half so I had two strips 17" x 48" and then rolled each strip around a 3/4" mandrel as tightly as I could. Inserted a couple pieces of tie wire to keep it from unwrapping and then slide them into the empty pipe. I got to tell you it's absolutely amazing! I still have that low rumble and the sound is music to the ears. If you have a set of VH pipes and you don't mind spending a couple of bucks and a few minutes of your time you have got to try this.

Sorry, Kai but you can let the next guy in line have those stock pipes because I found mine.

I think to use them you would have to plug the O2 sensors cause my bike is a a 2013 and is Fi.

Glad you found a fix for your long shots. It does make sense that narrowing raised the pitch and "pop". I think what you managed to do with the mesh was slow the velocity down by basically creating drag in the stream without narrowing. way to go!
