Help with Install Sliverado Bags and Mounts 10 Years, 5 Months ago
I have a set of stock Silverado bags and a set of the mounting brackets. However, my delima is that there are no mounting nuts and bolts. Any suggestion on how to proceed? Try to by the nuts and bolts (I have no clue what size etc.)? Toss the mounting brackets and buy a new complete mounting kit? Anyone has an idea what is needed? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I am at work right now Yickwo if no one answers you I will look at the bolt sizes when I get home around 8:30 est.... there are no nuts they bolt into where the eyebrow bolts are and there is a spacer between the brackets and the chrome eyebrows on the rear fender and the front needs 2 bolts that attach near the swingarms.....there are also 4 bolts inside for the bottoms of the bags to attach to the brackets as well as washers..Coug

Hi Coug,

Thank you very much for your help. I currently have 4 bolts from the 2 passenger foot pegs as well as 4 long bolts that hold two saddle bag support bars (which I am removing) attached to the backrest sidearms. Assuming I can use those eight bolts, from your post, I am missing 4 bolts/washers for the bottom of each bags and two spacer/washer for the side of each bag to be attached to the backrest sidearms, right?

I have a 2000 Road Star. Two tone black cherry with some accessories. It is a work in progress for more additions. It is in almost brand new, flawless condition at only 800 miles (almost ashamed to admit to that). I finally decided to get it out of the garage and start riding it. Will post some pics once the bags are up.

Thanks Coug. That information is very helpful. I will take it to hardware store and see if I can piece together the stuff. Keep my fingers crossed!

Also thanks to RoadieFF. I messaged you with my email. Further instructions would be appreciated.

I am very thankful for finding this forum and all the help everyone is offering. I'll keep you posted.

The bolts to hold the brackets to the eyebrows are 2" long. I'm not sure of the thread size anymore. If there is a bolt in there now take them to Ace and find out the thread and get 2". I replaced mine with stainless steel when I did my bags. I do this with any bolt I take off the bike. Worth the few cents.

Coug, RoadieFF, and thebru thank you very much for all your help. I was able to install the bags tonight without too much problems. I think they look fantastic. A few pics are attached.

I have another question. The stock tires are original 2000/1 tires. While they only have 800 or so miles, are they safe to ride or should I put on a new set?

Thanks again for everyone's help.
