Aftermarket exhaust 4 Years, 6 Months ago
My 08 has the factory exhaust. On hot days about town there is a good amount
of heat on the starboard side, not ultra classic level heat but warm just the same.
My question to those with aftermarket exhaust systems, do the better flowing systems
result in less heat?
I like the looks and sound of the Vance&Hines 2 into 1's but they aren't available
for injected bikes, no bungs.
Any insight would be appreciated.

You can buy any set of exhaust and add the O2 bungs. That is not a problem for most exhaust shops.

Cobra makes a 2 into 1 for the FI's. I just installed mine last night. In my opion it generates more heat.

It just seems wrong to spend big bucks on a new exhaust system, shiny chrome
and clean, then have someone welding on it. Lots of options up to 07, not
so much if your fuel injected. Just saying.

The O2 bungs should go on the un-shielded side of the exhaust anyway. A good shop would remove the chromed shield from the head pipe while they do it. Even the tiny bits of slag from a TIG start will mess up chrome. I got rid of a LOT of right side heat by dumping the airbox in favor of a RA-66V filter. That airbox cages so much heat you can barely touch the thing.

Really? Either you haven't looked or you have made up your mind that the only pipes you want are the ones that don't have O2 bungs. To the best of my knowledge, Bassani and V&H are the only ones who have never updated their product lines.

Seems like duals (one pipe per side) could potentially cool down the right side. If there's only one pipe over there, it's gotta be cooler, right? An expensive proposition that may or may not help the problem. Perhaps there are some clinic members who already have duals that could weigh in.

I installed the cobra 2 into 1 on my 08 roadstar and am happy with the look and sound. Do notice a little more popping, but easy to adjust to. I would agree with Michael that you do feel more heat. The aftermarket is not as heavy (thick) and seems to allow more heat generation.

The duals don't really cool down the right side. The rear cylinder still comes out on the right and does a 180 back through the bike between the rear cylinder and the frame to exit the left side.
