Do you have OEM 6 gauge battery cables or upgraded 4 ga cables. I have upgraded 4 ga cables ready to ship for $45 a set.
I've got AWG 4 cables but thank you for the offer. Did a little reading. I think a higher cranking amp battery is in order to make full use of the Thunderfire 70-246 starter. The battery I have is only 270cca. Looks like it would do better with 310 cca.

You might want to pull the back of the starter off and clean out all the debris from the brushes wearing. That might also help. I have a 500 cranking amp HO starter and 2 ga cables on mine with the Big Bore. It cranks over great!!

Wow that's awesome. What a nice setup you have. Totally jealous.. Will clean out the starter as you recommend and see how that helps. Thank you. Does anyone happen to know the most cca's safe to run thru a 4 ga cable. I'd like to get the most CCA to that starter. Warming the jugs is getting old. The only jugs I like to warm up are not on bikes.

I don't know what wattage the Thunderfire is rated at but I'm sure the 4 ga cable is more than adequate. One way to be sure is to run a voltage drop test on the cable while cranking the engine. The Yamaha spec is not more than 0.6 volt drop. If you want the strongest battery out there then the Yuasa GYZ20HL 320 CCA is it.
If the stock battery drops below 9.5 volts while cranking then it's probably bad. If not then the starter you bought might not be as strong as they advertise.

I'm not sure the wattage on the 70-246. It's a dicontinued thunderfire number but I know it was their HO. Probably the 2 kw. I apreciate the tip on the voltage drop check, and also the battery number info.

I don't know how they get 2 kw out of our size starter but maybe they do. The stock 1600 starter is .8 kw and the 1700's are .9 kw.

Don't know if they've changed their starter ratings but this is off their website. I have a discontinued 70-246. I don't actually know what series it's part of.. I'm guessing it would be in the middle somewhere since the box I have for it says high output. I'm seeing 1.4 kw for a stock replacement out there not .8 or .9 .. but maybe I'm missing something.

There were 2 offered, 70-244 1.4 kw, 70-246 1.75 kw. Someone was selling the 70-244 on ebay as the HO. It is not. Remove the starter and grind the chrome off the back of the tang where the bolts pass through. You need to only remove a small amount to get a better ground. This made a world of difference for me. Later I replaced the brushes this is what I used. http://www.stockers.com/index.php?dt=SM-13 Here is a video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlXuEbW0ML0

My starter is physically larger the the stock starter. The 4 ga cables will be fine I only have the 2 gauge because I can. Actually I had all the supplies to make the 2 gauge so I said why not.
