I would think we need to keep in mind that this Top Tier company is touting its own products. They think their stuff is best. What a surprise! Doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

On one hand, I've seen this article where the wording is such that these distributors are licensed to carry this product. That doesn't automatically mean they are using it. And I've had delivery guys tell me (I don't know if they were right or not) that the stuff they were putting in at that place was the same as some other place. They all came from the same source and all from his tank. Now I suppose there could be additives put in that he's not aware of, but who do you trust?

Also, are there not other brands of additives that are good also? Is only Top Tier brand good? I would think it's like Mobil saying only Mobil One oil the best.

Just like blending oil, the overwhelming majority of the refineries do not belong to the oil companies. They belong to other companies that blend whatever is requested to be blended. If every oil company owned it's own refinery, there would never be demand VS supply issues. As it is, the EPA conspires to limit the number of refineries available to distill and blend petroleum products for a couple of reasons. Chief among them is it limits the facilities they are obligated to audit periodically, and produce numerous reports on each year.
This boutique blend bullshit we deal with in metro areas puts a ridiculous strain on the limited infrastructure. Get this: so called environmentally friendly blends of gasoline mandated in Dallas-Fort Worth are different from San Antonio's and Houston's. I figure the gas is "green" or it's all bullshit, one or the other. I DO know the "green" gas is less efficient than pure blend gas in ANY vehicle by 1.5-2 mpg on average. How the hell is it that something that reduces efficiency, thus INCREASING emissions per mile driven, supposed to be better for the air pollution situation??

I know one thing for sure on the subject of same fuel in every pump. only ONE company delivers jet fuel to the 4 fuel farms on Love Field, and there are 4 different brands represented (Southwest Airline's farm is not branded, but http://www.groendyke.com/ Delivers all of it, and a good portion of the gasoline. The only "branded" tankers I regularly see around here are Love's and QT (Quik Trip) that are both headquartered in Tulsa, near the Mid-Continent refinery.

Having made a non-petroleum delivery to a Texas City refinery many years ago, I can attest to the truth that the name on the side of the tanker truck has little to do with the name on the gas station to which it delivers the product, or where the gasoline came from. I have received bad gas at a QT in Houston that caused problems on my motorcycle at the time, but the worst gasoline-related problem came from a small immigrant-run convenience store. The issue at that store was the fact that the trailer used to deliver the gasoline had been used to transport some other liquid product and not properly cleaned before being laden with the gasoline it delivered on that particular day. Since I had no receipt from the store, I "couldn't prove" that the bad gas I had in my truck came from that gas station. There were quite a few other motorists that were also affected. For the most part, the 'top-tiered' gas label is more a marketing ploy than anything else. I WILL say that location of gas stations may affect what you get at the pump...On my trip last year, I was able to get 'pure' gas in Oklahoma, but when I went to get gas in Raton, NM, the regular unleaded was rated at 85 octane.
