Rear Guards for Yamaha Road Star – Hard Bag Mod !

Got some for $50.00 however they are NOT the correct ones for hard bags !
You have to do a few modifications to make them work BUT they turn out GREAT !

I used a ( 8” ) chrome plate / bar from my old motorcycle windshield I had laying around ( see Pic )
You could / may be able to find 2 of them .. or use something like in the links …
Also you can not really see the bar ..
So it could be just a BLACK STEEL BAR > Instead of Chrome!

I had to drill the holes a tad bigger for the bolts to fit correctly for the top bar.
Now for the bottom – Some people drill a HUGE hole in the lower bag bracket to get the ORIGINAL
Bolt that comes with the Kit .. But I didn’t want to make such a big hole.
So I went to ( Fastenall - https://www.fastenal.com/ ) and got some reducers for the threads on the
Crash bar. And reduced the threads to ¼ bolt So I did not have to drill a HUGE HOLE ! In the Bracket!
Worked great ! And now I have supper nice chrome crash bars on my bike !

Hope this help anyone that would like to try this MOD out !

Looks good.

It makes a lot of sense to use those cheap guards, save a lot of money and they still look good.

A few other pics of another member's methods.
Looks more complicated than your.

Thanks for the write up. I had the same issue and ended up sending them back. Figured I didn't need any more weight or slutty chrome.
